BASIC FUNCTIONS
The CDL Dump Truck & Lowboy Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of company dump trucks, side dumps, lowboy trailers, and pup trailers to transport construction materials and heavy equipment to and from job sites. This role supports construction operations by ensuring compliance with all CDL, safety, weight, and traffic regulations, while maintaining timely deliveries and proper equipment care. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong driving skills, reliability, situational awareness, and a strong commitment to safety while working closely with dispatch, supervisors, and field crews.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
Vehicle Operation & Material / Equipment Transport Safely operate CDL-qualified dump trucks, including pulling pup trailers, in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. Operate tractor and lowboy trailer combinations to transport heavy equipment to and from job sites. Load, secure, and transport equipment and materials properly, including chaining, strapping, and load checks. Operate manual transmission vehicles as required. Plan and adapt routes based on job site access, weight limits, and project needs. Safety & Compliance Follow all company safety policies and DOT regulations at all times. Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections on trucks, trailers, and securement equipment. Ensure loads are properly secured and compliant with weight and permit requirements. Report mechanical issues, safety concerns, incidents, or violations immediately. Maintain a clean driving record and operate equipment responsibly. Vehicle, Trailer & Equipment Care Perform basic routine maintenance checks on trucks, lowboy trailers, and pup trailers. Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned vehicles and equipment. Assist with ensuring vehicles, trailers, and loads remain compliant with DOT and permit requirements. Communication & Team Support Communicate effectively with dispatchers, supervisors, and field crews regarding schedules, routes, and job site needs. Work collaboratively with equipment operators during loading and unloading. Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to assist with job site or yard tasks as needed. Flexibility & Job Readiness Willing to work long hours and varying schedules based on project demands. Ability to support multiple job sites and changing priorities. Maintain a dependable and professional work ethic.
Education/qualifications:
Minimum of 3+ years of experience operating dump trucks. Proven experience pulling pup trailers required. Experience hauling equipment on lowboy trailers preferred. Valid CDL Class A preferred (Class B acceptable with demonstrated ability pulling trailers where permitted). Clean driving record. Working knowledge of load securement, weight limits, and permit requirements. Motivated, dependable, and safety-focused. Able to work independently and as part of a team. Willing to perform additional job-related tasks as needed.
