Position Summary:
The Hydro Vacuum Truck Operator Assistant is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a hydro excavation truck, which uses high-pressure water and vacuum systems to excavate soil, debris, and other materials. This role supports construction, utility locating, potholing, trenching, daylighting, and environmental clean-up projects.Key Responsibilities:
Operate hydro-vacuum trucks to perform non-destructive excavation around utilities, pipes, and sensitive areas. Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment and report any maintenance issues. Safely drive equipment to and from job sites (may include long-distance travel). Set up and inspect job sites for safety hazards and ensure compliance with company and OSHA standards. Maintain accurate and timely paperwork including job tickets, vehicle logs, and safety documentation. Work alongside laborers and supervisors to complete daily job tasks efficiently. Monitor fluid and debris levels, ensure proper disposal of materials according to local regulations. Maintain cleanliness and general maintenance of the truck and equipment.Position Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED required. Previous experience operating hydro-vac or vacuum trucks preferred. Knowledge of utility locating and underground infrastructure is a plus. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift 50+ lbs. Strong commitment to safety and ability to follow detailed procedures. Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.Work Conditions:
Outdoor work environment in construction or industrial sites. Exposure to noise, dust, wet conditions, and traffic. May involve extended hours, overtime, and some weekend work depending on project schedules. Physical Requirements Work involves sitting, walking or standing for extended periods of time in various adverse weather conditions Must be able to repeatedly lift and/or carry weights of five to fifty pounds Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination Numerical Aptitude- This position requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; adding and subtracting totals; multiplying and dividing.
