Job Description

The City of Mont Belvieu, Texas is currently accepting applications for a Solid Waste Collection Driver in the Public Works Department. The City of Mont Belvieu is a growing community located on IH-10 east of Houston, Texas in Chambers County.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, operates automated solid waste trucks for the collection and transportation of residential and commercial garbage. Required to drive large, commercial type vehicles when needed to assist with the city public works functions. This is an essential position and will be required to provide services during emergency situations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates a large Solid Waste Front Loader Truck to collect and transport residential and commercial solid waste to the landfill for disposal. Will be required to operate Roll-Off truck periodically. Performs daily pre-trip equipment inspection, fueling unit, and preventive maintenance service by checking fluid levels, filters, tires, etc. to ensure optimum operation and performance of vehicle. Maintains clean vehicle by washing, brushing, and cleaning the truck's interior to ensure a clean and professional image and safe and sanitary conditions. Maintains daily activity logs, mileage and maintenance records by documenting odometer readings before and after driving vehicle to provide accountability of vehicle's usage. Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work related issues and City information; performs other duties as assigned. May be required to respond after hours, including holidays and weekends, in the event of a departmental or City wide emergency. During emergency conditions, all City employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned. Performs any and all other related duties or assignments as assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions .
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory responsibilities.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalent (GED). Previous experience in the operation of a front load garbage truck is a plus. Experience in the operation of large trucks or equipment. Must have a minimum, valid State of Texas Class "B" driver's license. Successful candidates must pass pre-employment drug screen, job related physical and background check. An equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions will be considered when hiring for this role.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, regardless of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, marital status, political affiliation, familial status, disability, sexual orientation, pregnancy, or gender identity and expression. Thorough knowledge of hazards, safety rules, and regulations applicable to the operation of large vehicles. Knowledge of preventive vehicle and equipment maintenance. Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. When assigned to operate solid waste truck (regular or automated), must have knowledge of safe working practices, such as the proper method for picking up large, heavy containers. Ability to drive large trucks through narrow alleyways. Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time, often under adverse weather conditions. Ability to utilize and comprehend maps depicting city streets and blocks. Ability to lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
