Job Summary:
The Sample Driver is responsible for transporting milk samples from the terminal and customer locations to the testing locations.
Essential Job Functions:
Safely transport milk samples from various collection points to the designated laboratory or processing plant, ensuring compliance with traffic regulations and safety standards Verify and confirm the accuracy of sample documentation, including sample identification, quantity, and collection details, before departure Adhere to established routes and schedules for timely and efficient delivery of milk samples to the laboratory or processing plant Conduct routine vehicle inspections to ensure the transport vehicle is in good working condition, addressing any maintenance or safety concerns promptly Provide excellent customer service during deliveries, including courteous interaction with customers, timely delivery, and resolution of basic queries or concerns Demonstrate flexibility by being available for day and night shifts to meet operational needs Adhere to all relevant quality control procedures, safety guidelines, and industry regulations governing the transportation of milk samples Maintain a calibrated thermometer with an accuracy of +/- 2°F, ensuring it is available and ready for use at all times. Perform biannual calibrations of the thermometer through a certified official Monitor and record temperature readings of customer facility refrigeration and cooler in accordance with established procedures Maintain the required sample temperature during transit Ensure all provided equipment is in good working condition before departing Reduce the risk of sample contamination; use an appropriate rack to securely hold sample containers Maintain an adequate supply of ice to regulate and sustain the desired temperature within the cooler during sample transportation Follow established protocols for loading and arranging samples within the cooler to optimize temperature distribution and minimize the risk of cross-contamination Conduct regular audits or checks to verify the accuracy of sample records against physical inventory, promptly addressing any discrepancies Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent Valid Driver's license in state of residency with acceptable driving record Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and submit to the company random drug and alcohol program Basic understanding of food-grade tank trailer components and systems Willingness to learn and work as part of a team Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining the highest quality and work standards Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in varying environmental conditions Ability to work any schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays Ability to read and understand CIP operating manuals
Preferred:
Entry level mechanical knowledge and experience One (1) year related experience

Physical Demands:
Driving Skills:
Ability to safely drive on multiple types of road surfaces (paved, gravel, etc.), navigate traffic, and operate the vehicle in various weather conditions, day or night and travel distances of approximately 500 miles per day.
Range of Motion:
Must have a full range of motion with hands, arms, and fingers to steer, operate, and adjust controls while operating a motor vehicle.
Strength and Endurance:
Must have the physical capability to lift and carry coolers weighing up to 60 pounds and carrying them for a distance of 100 yards.
Sitting and Walking:
Must be able to sit for long periods during driving and walk for short periods, including navigating stairs to loading docks or sample storage areas. This is mostly a general laborer classification, standing in outdoor work areas and walking between terminals, maintenance shops and Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) operating areas for long periods must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
Specific vision abilities:
Must be able to hear, see, and speak sufficiently to convey information to coworkers and customers, drive a vehicle and complete deliveries.
Inspection and Maintenance:
Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, and squat to perform a full inspection of the assigned vehicle, conduct operator level maintenance (check engine oil, change tire, etc.) and inspect tires for adequate inflation and potential damage.
Communication:
Must be able to read, write, and follow directions provided to properly follow milk sample packing and transporting procedures.
Work Environment:
The duties of this job are performed in and around milk processing plants, customer dairy production area, CMV Terminal environment, and outdoors, thereby experiencing some minor to moderate level of noise due to plant machinery, dairy farm equipment and CMV equipment. Must have a working knowledge of and physically utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) to limit or prevent occasional exposure to various severe climate conditions, lighting conditions, fumes, dust, odors, oil, grease, and gasses.
