Job Description

The City of Tomball is accepting applications for the positions of Driver/Operator. This position drives and operates fire apparatus, participates in fire suppression, prevention, and rescue activities in protecting life, property and the environment, and provides first aid response to medical emergencies. Driver/Operators are certified to drive fire apparatus and operate all equipment according to TCFP Driver/ Operator - Pumper. Driver/operators will exhibit maturity and good judgment in the performance of their assigned duties and are expected to perform the full range of fire suppression, safety and prevention duties.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Driver/Operators must perform the Duties and Responsibilities of a Firefighter, along with the following: Drives various fire apparatus to incident scene in response to calls for service including fires, fire alarms, emergency medical service, and any other type. Operates apparatus and numerous types of rescues, salvage, emergency and fire suppression equipment. Responsible for overall maintenance of all assigned apparatus to include all equipment on board and maintains proper stock of supplies on apparatus. Communicates with dispatch and command personnel through the use of specialized communications equipment such as two-way radio systems, data link in stations to administration and dispatch. Interprets and explains city and department policies and procedures for the public. Prepares and maintains records regarding status of hydrant maintenance. Conducts pre-fire planning and prepares reports regarding hazardous materials, emergency and non-emergency incidents and building surveys. Perform duties as a Firefighter when not assigned to Driver/Operator tasks. Other duties as assigned.
Salary:
$21.52 per hour (approximately $64,861.28 depending on overtime)
Qualifications:
Two years' experience as a firefighter Certified Firefighter through Texas Commission on Fire Protection or IFSAC equivalent Certified through the Texas Department of State Health Services as an EMT or higher or National Registry Certified Certified D/O - Pumper through Texas Commission on Fire Protection or IFSAC equivalent Class A or B Texas Driver's License or out of state equivalent
TESTING PROCESS
There will be an exam process for a full-time Driver/Operator promotional list. This list is good for one (1) year but can be extended for up to 6 additional months, at the discretion of the Fire Chief.
