Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled, safety-conscious CDL Dump Truck Driver to operate a 5-axle rig hauling construction aggregates, dirt, asphalt, and demolished materials. This position primarily operates between high-volume supply pits in the Salt Lake Valley and active project sites in the high-altitude, steep-terrain areas of Summit County (including Park City and Snyderville Basin). The ideal candidate must be adept at managing mountain grades (such as Parleys Canyon on I-80), handling manual transmissions in off-road construction environments, and operating safely in volatile alpine winter conditions.
Responsibilities Hauling & Site Operations Load Management:
Monitor load distribution to comply with Utah DOT bridge laws and axle-weight limits (especially critical for 5-axle setups passing through port-of-entry scales).
Dumping & Spreading:
Safely position, dump, and spread materials (gravel, road base, topsoil, asphalt) on active grades. Keep the tailgate, sideboards, and pup tongue clean of debris.
Ground Coordination:
Work closely with heavy equipment operators, grade checkers, and spotters using clear hand signals and radio contact.
Equipment Care & Compliance Inspections:
Perform rigorous pre-trip and post-trip inspections (fluid levels, air brakes, tire pressures, tag/pusher axle mechanics, and trailer couplings).
Basic Maintenance:
Grease pins, clean the box/chassis, and report mechanical issues immediately to the shop.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate daily logs, trip sheets, and material delivery tickets.
Safely transport maximum-capacity payloads up and down steep mountain grades, managing engine braking (Jake brakes) and transmission gearing to prevent brake fade.
Challenging Terrain:
Maneuver heavy 5-axle configurations through tight residential and commercial jobsites, narrow mountain roads, and muddy/unpaved construction zones.
Winter Operations:
Confidently chain up and drive in heavy snow, ice, and slush conditions common to Summit County passes. Strong understanding of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and state/local commercial driving laws. Mechanical knowledge for basic vehicle troubleshooting and maintenance awareness. Ability to communicate effectively in English; bilingual skills are a plus Knowledge of emergency response procedures for transportation incidents and quick response to traffic changes Physical ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary and maintain alertness during long shifts.

$24.00 - $30.00 per hour
