Performs difficult technical work operating a roll-off truck and preparing, loading and transporting large mobile open-top and compactor containers to County landfill or other facilities. Work is performed under the supervision of the Solid Waste & Recycling Operations Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS
(These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. Operates a Class-B, cable-hoist roll-off truck with air brakes. Must operate the vehicle in accordance with the requirements of OSHA (Occupational and Safety Health Act), VDOT (Virginia Department of Transportation) as well as all local, municipal and state laws. Prepares, loads, and transports large mobile open-top and compactor containers to County landfill or other facilities. Assists in cleaning up waste resulting from loading and unloading containers. All transported loads must be adequately tarped and secured. Reports any incidents, accidents, injuries or property damage to the Operations Manager. Performs pre- and post-trip inspections and performs minor preventative maintenance. Pressure washes the truck weekly to remove mud and solid waste residue. This position is essential, and employees will be required to work during and following natural disasters, emergency situations and inclement weather events. Performs related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
At least one year of experience operating an on-road, cable-hoist roll-off truck in the construction or waste disposal industry in accordance with all local, municipal, state, and federal laws. Good time management skills to ensure assigned responsibilities are completed in an efficient and safe manner. Knowledge of waste disposal procedures and methods.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. At least one year of previous experience operating a cable-hoist roll-off truck.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly. Continuous lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and other strenuous activity. May risk exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes, temperature and noise extremes. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment. A reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should possess great customer service skills, be available to work flexible hours and weekends. Must possess a valid DOT physical and a Commercial Driver's License A or B (CDL) with air brake endorsement. Successfully complete pre-employment DOT drug and alcohol screen. Successfully complete background check, which will include previous employment check, criminal history, and motor vehicle record review. Must have a clean driving record and be legally eligible to work in the United States. Ability to operate a backhoe is preferred.
