JOIN OUR TEAM AS A STRIPING TECH I

The role of Striping Tech I performs semi-skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of traffic control signs. Incumbents will be assisting the supervisor with the assigned duties related to installing, removing, replacing, relocation and repairing all traffic signs in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Roadway and Traffic Design standards and departmental policies and standards. Essential Job Functions Performs pre-trip vehicle and equipment inspections and safety check prior to use; and cleans vehicle and equipment after use as needed. Participates in inventory of signs. Prepares, completes and maintains work orders and work logs that ensure documentation includes location of signs, sign types, vertical and horizontal measurements of signs, times, dates, and retro reflectivity readings of signs. Sets up work and safety zones, flags traffic, and may drive variable message board equipped trucks. Responsible for installing, removing, replacing, relocates, and repairing of all traffic control signs in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and Roadway and Traffic Design standards departmental policies and standards. Reviews signing conditions, including fading, damage, height, distance, rigidity, obstacles, safety issues, and nighttime reflectivity, in accordance with current state and federal standards and practices; correct deficiencies. Assists in maintaining, loading and off-loading supply of all signs, equipment and materials needed. Contacts the public relative to traffic problems and maintains good public relations. Ability to lift and/or move up to 90 pounds and push or pull heavy objects. Performs related work as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to file, answer correspondence through phone, email or other messaging applications, and perform data entry via keyboard and touchscreen. Ability to use and be responsible for expensive equipment throughout daily activities. Ability to follow oral and written instruction. Ability to use a personal computer. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to operate various small power tools and light motor vehicles. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Knowledge of the federal, state, and local regulations, standards, and practices regarding the manufacture, installation and maintenance of traffic control signs. Minimum Requirements

PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS

Ability to lift and/or move up to 90 pounds and push or pull heavy objects. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication. Requires stooping, standing and bending. Remains on-call on rotational basis.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. One (1) year of experience installing and maintaining traffic control signs.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Must obtain IMSA Signs and Markings Level 1 Certification and Florida Department of Transportation Intermediate Temporary Traffic Control Certification within twelve (12) months of hire.
