SALARY:
$58,089.62 ($27.92/hourly) plus full benefits package
SUMMARY :
This position is responsible for the supervision and operations of the traffic signal systems which includes all maintenance, preventative maintenance, and on-call emergency service for the installation of traffic signals, signal systems, and intelligent transportation control devices on county-maintained systems under the direction of the Traffic Operations Division Manager, or designee. This position includes supervising, overseeing, and managing signal technicians and their workloads.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Supervising, coordinating, and directing the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signals and signal system devices on county-maintained signals
- Assuring that all assigned traffic signal system repair and construction work, whether by contractor, consultant, or staff is complete, accurate, and correctly performed
- Troubleshooting traffic signal equipment and supervising repairs
- Instructing traffic signal technician workers on proper safety practices and procedures and enforcing safety regulations
- Directing and instructing signal technicians on work methods, procedures, and standards related to their assignments
- Responsible for developing traffic signal systems preventative maintenance plan, implementation, and ongoing signal systems operations optimization
- Administrative responsibilities include material and budget monitoring and control; assisting in personnel selection, training and evaluation; basic management reports; and contract oversight
- Receiving work orders, establishing priorities, and assigning projects to crew leaders or individual employees
- Coordinating activities with other county staff and outside contractors and agencies
- Determining personnel, equipment, and supplies needed to accomplish required tasks
- Interviewing, recommending hiring, supervising, training, counseling, and evaluating subordinate personnel
- Performing field investigations, data collection, and inventory of roadway, intersection, and traffic signal conditions
- Providing emergency response on traffic control devices after normal working hours
- Occasionally supporting other divisions within the DOT to perform miscellaneous work or projects
- Responsible for maintaining traffic signal shop inventory, equipment, and vehicles
- Responsible for inspecting the installation and programming of video detection systems (VDS). Also responsible for ongoing VDS inspection and operations
- Inspecting all new traffic signal systems during installation and confirming that new installations adhere to DCDOT standards and specifications
- Performing final inspection for acceptance of all new traffic signal, electrical, and communications control devices
- Ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and communication driven traffic control devices county-wide adhere to the requirements of MUTCD, IMSA, NEMA, GDOT, and USDOT and FHWA regulations and standards
- Compiling rough data and preparing statistical and narrative reports from field studies
- Reading figures quickly, and accurately performing mathematical calculations
- Inspecting crew work order installations to ensure accuracy in project implementation
- Assisting in preparing work orders for traffic signal related improvement and maintenance projects
- Assisting in traffic complaint investigations and other traffic operations-related duties as assigned
- Assisting in carrying out work orders assigned by: o Traffic Operations Division Manager or designee o Director of the Department of Transportation
- Assisting in preparing staff reports to the: o Traffic Operations Division Manager or designee o Director of the Department of Transportation

EXPERIENCE
- Associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with major field of study in a related discipline; degree in engineering preferred
- Seven years professional related work experience o Minimum two years of which were performed in a supervisory capacity o Preferred - public services Traffic Control Devices
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Must be 18 years of age or older
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License (Class C) and a satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR)
- Must possess International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level 2 Certification in any of the signal -related areas
- International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Traffic Signals Design Engineer Level 1 or 2 certified, or certification within one year of hire
- International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Traffic Signals Field Tech Level 2 or 3 certified or certification within one year of hire
- CDL certified or certification within one year of hire
- Employee is encouraged to be an active member of one or more of the following: The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) IMSA, Georgia's Regional Traffic Operations Program (RTOP ), and Intelligent Transportation Society of Georgia (GAITS)

WORK SCHEDULE
Emergency standby; the employee in this classification must provide 24 hour on-call coverage.
