Job Description

The is a full time position with 40 hours per week & the possibility of overtime. Under the direct supervision of the Field Superintendent, maintains municipal and rural roads and rights-of-ways in safe conditions. Ability to cut brush, erect signs, drive tandem axle trucks and perform other labor functions as needed. Drives truck and/or equipment to provide road maintenance operations. Checks equipment daily to maintain efficient and safe operational status: Performs routine vehicle maintenance checks daily. Assists in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices, signs, barricades, cones, etc. Controls traffic at work sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas, as required or assigned, after completing "Traffic Regulator Training." May erect and repair guard rails, highway markers, etc. utilizing hand tools, and power tools. Manually patches asphalt and seal coat roads. Washes and cleans equipment at District Garages. Sweeps and maintains vehicle storage areas. The duties state here are intended to describe the general nature and level or work being performed by employees assigned to this classification. ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
(ADA): Physical Mobility
  • Ability to walk extended distances and climb ramps to access Commission and other work related locations and facilities. Vision and Sight
  • Ability to read instruction, directions, and similar written information in letters, memoranda, forms and other documents. Hearing and Speaking
  • Ability to converse orally with standard telephones and radios to receive and communicate information to fellow employees. Agility and Movement
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and manipulate tools, equipment, supplies and other objects often weighing upwards to 80 pounds.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT
Hard hats, safety vests, gloves, safety eyewear, etc. will be supplied by the Delta County Road Commission and worn at all times.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
High School education, GED, or equivalent education preparation, ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively, ability to work satisfactorily with other employees, and ability to work extended hours.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid Michigan CDL Operators License.
