State Maintenance bureau works with all Districts, provides support with projects though out the state. State maintenance bureau is responsible for overseeing the outdoor advertising, sign shop and signal lab to provide these services throughout the state. This position will be responsible for the overall installation, inspection, and maintenance of electronic traffic control monitoring devices/systems on state-maintained roadways. How does it get done? This position will install, inspect and maintain electronic traffic control monitoring devices/systems on state-maintained roadways. Who are the customers? The traveling public. Ideal Candidate The traveling public. Minimum Qualification High School Diploma or equivalent and four (4) years of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required experience. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment. Employment requires successful completion of pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results. Working Conditions Work is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions: hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow. Exposure to sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, rough/rugged terrain, insects and reptiles, noxious plants and infected trash; exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals and/or asphalt and petroleum products; exposure to temperatures up to 150 degrees around oil distributor operations; high speed/high volume traffic and loud noises; subject to falls and bruises, considerable physical strain; standing for extended periods of time doing traffic control or walking long distances for litter control; hand dexterity required for some duties; numerous specific vision abilities to include: close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus; some climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling to perform job duties; ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Work may also be performed in an office setting with exposure to visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage to include working with faxes, copiers and printers. May be required to work irregular hours and is subject to call out for weather, accidents and/or emergencies on short notice; frequent temporary assignments that require travel and extended overnight stays to include weekends, holidays, and overtime are required.
