Job Description

Join Our Team as a Distribution Technician York Water is looking for a Distribution Technician to play a critical role in maintaining our water distribution system and ensuring efficient leak detection. What You'll Do:
As a Distribution Technician, you will: Implement and maintain York Water's leak detection program to ensure system efficiency. Analyze system leak data and document unbilled water loss from main and service line leaks. Provide weekly and monthly reports on findings to the Distribution Superintendent. Respond to after-hours emergencies such as main breaks when needed. Adjust work schedules for off-shift hours to conduct leak detection efficiently. Use GPS/GIS equipment to locate and document company facilities and assets. Assist the GIS Coordinator in updating and maintaining the
ESRI GIS
database. Mark and locate water mains and service lines for York Water and contractors. Operate valves for main breaks and emergency repairs. Assist the Customer Service and Dispatch teams with service turn-ons, turn-offs, and customer complaints. Notify customers of scheduled maintenance and outages. Work closely with Superintendents to administer the PA One Call System. Maintain professionalism and positive communication with customers, employees, and contractors.
What We're Looking For:
Education & Experience:
A high school diploma or GED is required, along with at least three years of independent work experience and a minimum of two years in a water system role or five years in a technical/detail-oriented position, with the requirement to obtain an Associate's Degree in Business, Management, or a related field within five years of employment.
Technical Skills:
Ability to read and interpret safety procedures, operating manuals, and reports, with strong skills in Microsoft Word and Excel for reporting and documentation, along with the ability to analyze data, solve technical problems, and prioritize tasks effectively.
Certifications & Licenses:
A valid Pennsylvania driver's license is required, along with the ability to obtain a DEP Class E Water Operator's Certification within one year of hire and a PA DOT license.
Other Skills:
Experience with GIS, GPS, leak detection equipment, and mobile technology is preferred, along with strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in outdoor conditions and near moving mechanical equipment..
