Assist with Testing of traffic signal, ITS and lighting components a. Test, Install, maintain, modify, adjust, overhaul, troubleshoot and repair a variety of electrical systems, electronic, magnetic devices and computerized equipment used to monitor and control traffic signal systems and ITS devices. Completing test reports for the same. b. Perform QA/QC testing of purchased products. Documentation of results. Work within Asset management system to record test results. c. Under the direction of supervisory staff, perform system modifications, such as changes to traffic signal phasing and timing, signal head modifications, intersection infrastructure construction, traffic signal system integration and system networking. d. Provide technical assistance to regions as needed for the troubleshooting of signal equipment. Documentation of issues reported from the field and supporting repair and resolution with field staff. e. Act as team lead within Lab technical staff of TST-s to ensure adequate and qualitative testing is occurring of signal equipment. Completing and forwarding test reports to as needed. f. Review, modify and prepare documents defining the operations, design and construction of traffic signal systems and ITS devices. g. Assist as necessary with product set up and testing of products and systems submitted for APL evaluation. Working with vendors as needed. Coordinate with vendors to perform troubleshooting on signal and ITS equipment. h. Warehouse work, including shipping and receiving, documentation and fork truck operation. i. Propose system and operational enhancements as needed 2. Assist with Training program a. Contribute to basic, intermediate, and advanced training for signal and lab staff on all aspects of traffic signal equipment. b. Assist with creation of training documents, agendas, and class curriculum. c. Developing instructional documentation on signal equipment for field and lab staff. d. Attend Vendor led training on new and existing equipment. e. Occasional travel to regions will be required. 3. Follow safety program protocols and conduct all work in safe manner. 4. Assist with events a. Support job-fairs, outreach events and other Department initiatives to include attendance, set up and operation of display traffic signals and other systems. Occasional travel may be required. Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations. Minimum QualificationsThis title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).• To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for this position.
The qualifications are:
Promotional:
One year of permanent competitive, non-competitive, 55-b/55-c, or labor class service as follows: Traffic Systems Technician 1 or Toll Electronic Systems Technician.
Open Competitive:
Sixty semester credits hours of college-level study in engineering or technology, including at least 15 credit hours in electronics, and two years of experience in electronic troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, or design of solid state electronic equipment, including at least one year of involvement with micro computer equipment. Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law. Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date, it is expected employees hired under
NY HELPS
will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an
NY HELPS
title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified. Your required educational credentials must have been awarded by an educational institution accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the United States (U.S.) Department of Education/Secretary of Education.
