Job Description

Job Responsibilities A ssists with installation and maintenance of traffic signals. Perform journey-level work and possess a high level of skill and creativity in their craft. Keeps current with new technologies associated with traffic signal software's and traffic signal systems and equipment. Work closely with traffic engineering from both the district and headquarters on implementing and maintaining precise system data and operation. Assist with managing the signal system database, signal system communications network and signal integration program . Troubleshoots and repairs electronics and signal equipment. Performs alignment, calibration, modification of Electronic Equipment throug h District 4. Assist with d a ta entry and maintaining the TEAMS inventory database. Trains and advises lower-level techni cians, and s chedules inspection of signals installed by Contractors, local government maintainers to ensure they are installed in a timely manner and installed in accordance with current SCDOT plans and /or specificati ons. Assist with preforming Signal Inventories, verifies stock availability, control and re conciliation. Assists with traffic signals installations / revisions in accordance with signal plans; Is able to coordinate wi th utility companies to identify utility issues and coordinates with other SCDOT divisions to address right of way and other construction related issues. Ensures traffic signal controllers are programmed to operate signalized intersections in accordance with designed plans and specifications. Perform s other related duties as assigned. Minimum and Additional Requirements A high school diploma and one (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position. The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires driving for extended periods, walking, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be subject to a certain degree of risk working with electrical currents. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise on a daily basis.
