Job Description

Under general supervision the Law Enforcement Support Technician position supports the Patrol and Records division of the Round Rock Police Department, and helps the department efficiently use police resources. Work is performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, local, state, and federal regulations with considerable independence to use pertinent training and knowledge. Posted range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience. Supports law enforcement agencies, court jurisdictions and the community by responding to various types of requests either through dispatched, verbal, or written communication. Processes highly confidential information and route to appropriate channels Ensures timely and accurately completion of tasks including assisting with public information requests, collection of evidence and entry into criminal databases. Understands pertinent local, state, and federal regulations that affect the processing or release of criminal and civil information. Responds to traffic complaints by email and phone; reviews location to determine type of study and equipment required; deploys speed trailer; provides feedback to citizen and notifies patrol for enforcement if necessary. Collects evidence by finding property and taking photos of damage or bodily injury; dusts for prints and collects items to be transported to the PD; collects, transports and submits property to the police department for investigation or safekeeping. Responds to traffic hazards in roadway by blocking traffic and removing hazards; responds to accident scenes, sets up cones, gets witness statements; provides transportation to safe location or residence. Responds to calls and maintains crime scene log manually by listing all personnel entering the crime scene. Must be able to lift at least 50lbs unassisted into a vehicle; climb in and out of a truck to retrieve equipment; maneuver a speed trailer, attach a hitch and deploy the trailer. High school diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of experience working with the public. Verifiable volunteer experience may be considered in lieu of actual work experience. One year of the indicated experience may be substituted for with one year (30 semester hours) of higher education. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment physical standards test. Class C Driver's License Required to obtain
TCIC/NCIC
Certification within six (6) months of employment. Must have completed, or be able to obtain, Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Training.
