ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
Olbrich Botanical Gardens is home to 16 acres of outdoor display gardens and a 10,000 square foot tropical conservatory. The outdoor gardens include 10 unique specialty gardens and received the 2022 American Horticultural Society Environmental Award. Indoors, the tropical Bolz Conservatory exhibits an extraordinary collection of exotic plants and orchids complemented by colorful birds and koi. Olbrich is committed to a culture of sustainability and education so that everyone - including future generations - can experience and learn about the fascinating world of plants and gardens. Olbrich Botanical Gardens is operated through a public/private partnership between the City of Madison and the Olbrich Botanical Society (OBS), the non-profit organization that raises over $4.7 million each year to support the daily operation of the Gardens. Together both entities manage a combined operating budget of $7 million and an additional yearly capital improvement budget. OBS helps lead capital campaigns, including its most recent campaign (2020) that raised $6 million to build new greenhouses and the Frautschi Family Learning Center.

PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Seasonal Tram Driver at Olbrich Botanical Gardens will operate an electric tram in a safe and professional manner with emphasis on guest experience, visitor services, interpretation and safety. The Tram Driver provides pre-recorded interpretation throughout the ride for all visitors and is a key part of the Guest Experience Team, helping to fulfill Olbrich's vision of being a locally treasured and globally renowned source of beauty and education celebrating the importance of plants in a sustainable world.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILIT I ES
: This job description describes the general nature and scope of responsibilities for this position. Please note other duties and responsibilities may be assigned or removed at any time. Guest Experience (70%) o Display a confident, energetic, and positive attitude while working with visitors, staff, and volunteers; competently represent Olbrich Botanical Gardens; maintain a clean, neat, professional appearance and wear issued clothing and nametags. o Greet visitors and assist them in safely embarking and disembarking the tram. o Interact with visitors to answer questions, give directions and be generally helpful. o Make visitor announcements. o Assist in ensuring a safe and welcoming atmosphere for all visitors. o Conduct all transactions, activities, and responsibilities in a safe and respectful manner o Operate the tram with visitor services in mind at all times o Report problems and challenges to the Front of House Manager in a timely manner o Assist in managing crowds at embarking/disembarking o Clean and inspect the tram at the beginning/end of each shift to make sure it is in good operating order o Safely navigate a 14-passenger electric vehicle (training provided) o Enforce organization's policies and procedures o Keep in radio/cell phone contact with staff on duty. Membership & Development Support (10%) o Solicit and collect donations from tram users. o Encourage garden membership Interpretation (10%) o Clearly, accurately, and effectively communicate the organization's history, garden highlights, policies and procedures with tram users and other visitors o Follow predetermined route and interpretation presentation Other Related Duties (10%) o Keep on schedule o Assist with writing reports on any incidents that occur during your shift o Record daily shift feedback o Keep track of the number of tram users during each shift o Collect visitor survey data as directed by the Director of Guest Experience o Perform related work as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to drive and navigate a 14-passenger electric tram (without power steering) in a safe manner. Ability to move about tram to clean seats, floors, and wind shields, etc. with cleaning implements. Ability to effectively communicate with visitors and staff in a positive, friendly manner. Ability to submit personal information for a criminal background check before hire. Ability to commit to the work schedule outlined (including weekends, weekdays, and holidays) and find substitute drivers when unable to work a scheduled shift. Ability to take to work independently and problem solve, calling for assistance when needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A good driving record and possession of a valid driving license and auto insurance (•Proof of personal automobile insurance, which meets statutory requirements, is required in order to be approved by organization's insurance carrier as an authorized driver.) Demonstrated customer service experience Demonstrated clear communication ability
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
(optional/if applicable): Knowledge of, or interest in, nature/botanical gardens is preferred. Proficiency or fluency in Spanish
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment and job specifications listed below are representative of those that must be met by an employee, with or without accommodations, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position is not eligible for remote work. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including direct sun, wind, cold and rain Ability to sit for long periods of time (tram routes last 20-30 minutes) Ability to stand for long periods of time while welcoming guests on the tram Ability to help guests safely navigate embarking and departure from the tram Ability to move on uneven terrain Ability to work with items overhead Ability to move items weighing up to 15 pounds

WORK SCHEDUL E
This is a flexible, part-time, limited term position from May through October for up to 20 hours per week. Shifts are 9:30am-1:30pm or 1:30pm-5:30pm, Monday-Sunday. The tram season runs weekends during May, daily Memorial Day through Labor Day, weekends from September through mid-October.
