Job Description
R. J. Corman Railroad Switching Company is seeking a Track Inspector in Westlake, LA.
Accountability:
This individual will safely inspect rails, ties, roadbed and switches.Responsibilities:
- Work in conjunction with the Track Superintendent and Track Owner to install and repair track; complete other projects as needed.
- Operate machinery in order to adequately inspect the track.
- Complete all required documentation.
- Promote a safe work environment.
- Railroad experience preferred.
- Perform tasks associated with track work including but not limited to: pulling and driving spikes, replacing ties, surfacing track, changing rail, bars, and other track apparatus.
Education and Experience:
Prefer related work experience of at least 2 years involving track inspection, repair, and maintenance. Able to pass railroad safety test and training. Can safely and efficiently operate power tools. Must have good communication skills and good employee relations. Should be multi-task oriented and possess good analytical skills.Physical Requirements:
- Able to perform physical strenuous work
- Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch
- Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50lbs
- Requires occasional use of 30lb claw bar to remove spikes, requiring application of 50lbs of force
- Requires occasional use of 10lb sledge hammer to drive spikes, requiring application of 75lbs of force
- Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner
- Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary
