Job Description
Overview We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Mechanical Manager specializing in Railroad Repair to lead our maintenance and repair operations for rail vehicles and infrastructure. This pivotal role involves overseeing mechanical systems, ensuring safety compliance, and managing a skilled team of technicians. Duties Lead and supervise the mechanical repair team responsible for maintaining and repairing railcars, locomotives, and related equipment. Diagnose mechanical issues using schematics, power tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters. Oversee routine maintenance tasks including vehicle inspections, lubrication, parts replacement, and system upgrades. Ensure all repairs comply with safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies. Utilize mechanical knowledge to interpret schematics and technical manuals for troubleshooting complex mechanical systems. Manage inventory of hand tools, power tools, automotive electrical components, and MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Operations) supplies. Coordinate with safety officers to conduct regular safety training sessions and enforce safety protocols during repair activities. Maintain detailed records of repairs performed, parts used, and maintenance schedules to optimize operational efficiency. Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance repair processes and reduce downtime. Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and safety awareness within the maintenance department. Skills Extensive mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in vehicle maintenance and mechanical systems repair. Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, automotive service tools, and schematics interpretation. Strong manual handling skills for lifting heavy components safely during repairs or replacements. Experience working with diesel mechanics and automotive electrical systems including troubleshooting with ohmmeters. Knowledge of safety regulations related to railroad maintenance operations and machinery handling. Ability to read technical diagrams and schematics accurately for effective repairs. Skilled in welding techniques necessary for structural repairs or modifications on rail vehicles. Excellent customer service skills to coordinate with internal teams or external vendors when needed. Familiarity with maintenance, repair & operations (MRO) practices to ensure optimal equipment uptime.
