Job Description
Under the general supervision ofthe Engineer/Manager, the Lead Mechanic/Welder helps to direct thestaff performing the shop functions of the Road Commission. Responsible for maintaining and repairingRoad Commission vehieles and equipment. Responsibilities & Duties1. Does all duties and requirements of mechanic/welder.2. Supervises and directs repairs to be made to various vehicles and equipment. Also maintains,repairs, and services vehicles and equipment.3. Inspects defective equipment and diagnosis malfunctions using testing equipment and factory manuals.4. Discusses mechanical problems with operators or drivers and discusses major repairs onequipment or vehicles with the Engineer/Manager. Helps to keep Road Foremen informed of equipment status.5. Aids in overseeing the routine maintenance schedule for all equipment. Communicates with Lubricator.6. Coordinates and plans with Foremen of each shop and Engineer/Manager for any emergencyrepairs that might be necessary, especially during the winfer months.7. Works closely with the Engineer/Manager and Foremen in coordinating all equipment needs for maintenance and construction activity.8. Works with the Engineer/Manager in specifying future equipment purchases and lhelps prepare specifications for new equipment.9. May be required to perform a variety of tasks related to or associated with the operation of the Road Commission.10. Must have strong leadership qualities and be able to communicate well with other employees andthe Engineer/Manager. Ability to work satisfactorily with and supervise other employees.3. Considerable knowledge of, and skill in using mechanized tools and equipment used in motorvehicle repair, including hand tools, diagnostic testing and tuning equipment.4. Ability to read and understand equipment operation manuals and safety labels to maintain safeworking conditions.
