Job Title:
Engine Technician Job Description As an Engine Technician, you will collaborate with engineers in a state-of-the-art propulsion laboratory to develop, calibrate, and test engine components. You will work on cutting-edge projects that could be years away from production, contributing to the development and validation of high-performance engines. Responsibilities Work closely with engineers to conduct calibration development, mechanical experiments, and manual test points for engine development. Perform mechanical swapping of engine components to optimize performance. Utilize AVL/PUMA and emissions equipment in a laboratory setting. Execute engine tuning and calibration using HP Tuners or standalone systems. Run and operate manual testing on a dynamometer. Collaborate with Test Engineers to adjust fuel tables, air intake, spark, and exhaust for optimal performance. Work at the component level, including tasks such as oil pumps, head or cam changes, fuel injectors, and spark plugs. Assemble, modify, and fabricate engines for testing. Fabricate components for engine and test stand/dynos. Perform instrumentation between the engine and the dyno. TIG weld parts and components as needed. Essential Skills 3-5 years of experience with engine dynamometers. Hands-on experience with engine rebuild, tear down, assembly, repair, and troubleshooting. Proficiency in fabrication and assembly using hand tools. Associate's degree in a relevant field. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with AVL/PUMA and emissions equipment. Familiarity with engine tuning software such as HP Tuners. Experience in a laboratory setting focused on testing and development. Calibration experience, ideally gained from personal projects or work with standalone fueling systems. Work Environment The work takes place in a very clean test lab and garage, part of a large engineering headquarters. The facility is air-conditioned and equipped with a full-service cafeteria open from 6 am to 2:30 pm. Employees will need to provide their own basic tools, while the company supplies a toolbox and any unique or specialty tools. The facility offers ample parking, though there may be a short walk to the building. The role offers shifts on a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift basis with varying hours. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out ofPONTIAC, MI.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
