Job Description

About the Role Picture your day starting with a safety briefing, a call to Central Control, and a checklist for the track segment you'll service. As the Light Rail Maintenance-of-Way Track Technician (Track Maintainer I), you'll move between yard and right-of-way, operating high-rail and on-track vehicles to keep the line reliable. You'll install and replace critical components, align rail, and respond when the railway needs you most—day or night. What You'll Do Install, inspect, maintain, repair, and replace track and roadbed components—including rail sections, switch points, frogs, stock rails, ties, bridge and switch timbers, tie plates, cut spikes, and other fasteners.
Perform routine and emergency maintenance:
tamping, rail replacement, rail alignment, and full track panel installation.
Operate specialized equipment:
tamping machines, on-track ballast regulators, cranes, backhoes, and other MOW equipment and vehicles. Support peers during routine and emergency situations to keep trains moving safely over the right-of-way. Follow Central Control instructions at all times when working on or near the right-of-way and remain qualified under MetroLink Safety Rules for Maintenance-of-Way (MOW) employees. How You'll Succeed Our mission is straightforward: perform track work functions and any assigned duties safely, orderly, and productively. You'll combine field skill with disciplined rule compliance to maintain a safe railway. Qualifications No more than one preventable accident within the 24 months prior to bid. Proven ability to work safely and efficiently with minimal supervision, following all applicable rules and regulations; capable of operating required high-rail, on-track, and other vehicles for MOW work. Successful completion of the Metro Link Operating Rules Examination for Maintenance of Way (MOW) employees and Standard Operating Procedures; employees are to be high-rail and flag qualified. Knowledge of first aid and safe work practices, with the ability to demonstrate both.
License:
Possession of a current, valid Class A Commercial Driver's License is a requirement to hold this position and shall be acquired by the end of the qualification period. Ability to meet heavy physical demands: lift rail parts and equipment up to 100 pounds; assist with loading, unloading, and moving ties, rails, and other objects weighing over 100 pounds. Complete the training program and post-training qualification period. Available for 24-hour call-out during critical and emergency situations. Safety & Standards Remain qualified on MetroLink Safety Rules for MOW employees. Adhere to Central Control direction when on or near the right-of-way. Meet all job class requirements listed above. Bi-State Development is committed to providing an Equal Employment Opportunity experience for all employees, applicants, vendors and customers with an environment free of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
