Job Title:
Rotating Machinery Engineer Job Description The Rotating Machinery Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, and development of high-speed turbomachinery, focusing particularly on automotive style turbocharger architectures, which include radial inflow turbines and centrifugal compressors. This role entails owning the entire rotating assembly, from conceptual layout to detailed analysis, with operating speeds ranging from 60,000 to 120,000 RPM. It requires profound experience in high-speed rotating machinery design rather than traditional power turbines. Responsibilities Design high-speed radial turbomachinery with automotive turbo-style architectures. Own the full rotating assembly design, from shaft to housing. Perform rotor dynamics and stability analysis for ultra-high-speed operation. Support bearing selection, cooling, and integration processes. Evaluate mechanical integrity, containment, and safety under fault conditions. Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturability and system integration. Essential Skills Proven experience designing high-speed turbomachinery. Background in radial inflow turbines and/or centrifugal compressors. Experience with rotational speeds in the 60,000-120,000 RPM range. Strong mechanical design Background in rotating assemblies. Experience with bearings, with a preference for foil bearings. Proven rotor dynamics analysis experience. Familiarity with containment and failure mode considerations. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Experience in automotive turbochargers or similar high-speed compact turbomachinery. Aerospace experience supporting high-speed rotating equipment is highly regarded. Work Environment The role offers flexibility in the work environment, allowing for either center-based work or remote opportunities, depending on team needs. The work can be conducted at the Actalent Fort Worth center or the GE Unison facility in Beavercreek, OH. The position involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and manufacturability of designs. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Dayton, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $75.00/hr.
