Job Description

Railcar Mechanical and Repair Technician Join our team of skilled professionals and contribute to the safe and efficient operation of railcars. The Railcar Mechanical Technician is responsible for maintenance, inspection and repair activities of railcars, ensuring railcars are safe, functional, and meet industry standards, and compliance with applicable regulations. This role involves a variety of tasks, including performing mechanical inspections, operating equipment such as forklifts, jib cranes, large jacks, cutting, welding, grinding and completing applicable documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspect tank cars for damage, corrosion, leaks, structural issues, or component wear Repair or replace mechanical components including safety appliances, and running gear Perform welding and cutting using approved techniques (SMAW, FCAW, or as required) Conduct air brake testing and diagnostics Complete detailed repair reports and ensure documentation complies with FRA and AAR regulations Safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, hand tools, and other industrial equipment Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) Conduct Inbound / Outbound inspections of railcars to identify any damage, defects, or safety hazards Properly maintain equipment used in repair activities Use drawings, AAR Field Manuals, and written repair instructions for work execution Removing and installing tank car service equipment Performing valve repair and mechanical repairs Conducting inspections and leak testing Stenciling railcars Adhering to industry standards and safety regulations
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent AWS welding certification (preferred or must be able to obtain) 1 year of experience in tank car repair activities (preferred) Forklift and crane operator certification (preferred or will be trained on-site) NDT LT (BLT), VT, or PT certifications (not required, but preferred) Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions Physical fitness to lift heavy objects, walk, bend, stoop, and kneel Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills Excellent communication and teamwork abilities Valid driver's license
