Job Description
Job Description As an Engine Development Technician, you will collaborate with engineers to develop calibration, conduct mechanical experiments, and fabricate and manually test engine components. Your role will be integral in bringing engines to a 60% calibration state, after which they will proceed to Engine Validation for testing and performance analysis. Responsibilities Work alongside engineers to test different engine combinations for optimum performance. Operate within a laboratory setting using AVL/PUMA and emissions equipment. Tune and calibrate engines using software such as HP Tuners or standalone systems. Execute manual testing on a dyno. Collaborate with Test Engineers to manipulate fuel tables, air intake, spark, and exhaust to achieve optimum engine performance. Perform component-level work, including changes to oil pumps, heads, cams, fuel injectors, and spark plugs. Assemble, modify, and fabricate existing engines in preparation for testing. Fabricate components for engine and test stand/dynos. Instrument connections between engines and dynos. TIG weld parts and components. Essential Skills Associate's degree in a related field. 3-5 years of experience with engine dynamometers. Hands-on experience in engine rebuilding, teardown, assembly, repair, and troubleshooting. Proficiency in using engine tuning software such as HP Tuners. Experience with AVL/PUMA and emissions equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in a laboratory environment with a focus on testing and development. Experience with standalone fueling systems or involvement with a race team/shop is advantageous. Mechanical with skills in vehicle modification or aftermarket vehicle building. Work Environment The work environment is a very clean test lab and garage within an engineering headquarters. The facility includes a full-service cafeteria open from 6 AM to 2:30 PM, is air-conditioned, and offers ample parking, though there may be a short walk to the entrance. Technicians must have their own basic tools, but the toolbox and any unique or specialty tools will be provided. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Pontiac, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $54.00 - $56.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
