Maritime Safety Consultant (Dock Demolition & Rebuild Project) The Miller Group - 3.5 Norfolk, VA Job Details Temporary 1 day ago Qualifications Environmental compliance Energy control procedures Records management Organizational skills Hazardous energy control Full Job Description Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Maritime Safety Consultant to oversee and support safety operations during a dock demolition and rebuild project. This temporary contract role (estimated 15-month duration) will focus on maintaining compliance with maritime and environmental safety regulations while ensuring safe execution of demolition, reconstruction, marine operations, and contractor activities. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in maritime safety management, heavy construction safety, waterfront operations, and regulatory compliance. This position requires hands-on oversight in an active marine construction environment with multiple contractors, heavy equipment operations, and evolving site hazards. Conduct marine construction and demolition safety assessments and hazard analyses. Monitor compliance with OSHA, EPA, IMO, and local port authority regulations. Oversee safe operations involving cranes, barges, pile driving, cutting, excavation, and heavy equipment. Perform daily dockside and marine construction safety inspections. Ensure contractor and subcontractor adherence to project safety standards. Lead toolbox talks, safety meetings, and emergency response drills. Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions and provide corrective action recommendations. Monitor environmental and spill prevention compliance during demolition and marine operations. Maintain accurate safety reports, inspection logs, incident documentation, and compliance records. Support project leadership with risk mitigation strategies throughout all phases of demolition and rebuild activities. Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of maritime, shipyard, or marine safety experience. Strong knowledge of maritime safety regulations and industry best practices. Experience supporting marine construction, dock demolition, waterfront infrastructure, or heavy civil projects preferred. OSHA certification and/or maritime safety certifications strongly preferred. Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or extended shifts if required. Proficiency in incident reporting and safety management systems. Work will be performed in active marine construction and waterfront demolition environments. Exposure to varying weather conditions, heavy equipment operations, elevated work areas, noise, dust, and industrial hazards. Frequent walking, climbing, vessel boarding, and inspections around active construction zones may be required. Ability to work extended hours, weekends, or night shifts during critical project phases may be necessary. Working Conditions Work will be performed in active marine construction and waterfront demolition environments. Exposure to varying weather conditions, heavy equipment operations, elevated work areas, noise, dust, and industrial hazards. Frequent walking, climbing, vessel boarding, and inspections around active construction zones may be required. Ability to work extended hours, weekends, or night shifts during critical project phases may be necessary.
