Job Description

Job Overview The Dispatcher will ensure the timely operation of the train. The Dispatcher is responsible for the safe and efficient administration of train operations. Duties Strong attention to detail utilizing information systems with changing priorities.
  • Qualified on operations and safety rules.
  • Quick learner with the ability to grasp and apply key training concepts.
  • Active listener - gives full attention to what others are saying, takes time to understand the points being made and asks relative and appropriate questions.
  • Develops and maintains accurate records.
  • Directs and coordinate train traffic and on-line work projects, ensuring compliance with railroad operating rules.
  • Attentive to detail with the ability to maintain composure during stressful situations.
  • Ability to use logic and reason to identify approaches or determine solutions to problem solving.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and accomplish tasks using sound forethought and judgement.
  • Identify and distinguish colors displayed on a video monitor and video display to read track labels and other safety sensitive indications.
  • Communicate with personnel on conditions affecting train movement.
  • Available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and various shifts.
  • Able to work with a variety of personalities. Education
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver's License Qualifications
  • Understand oral and written communications both general and technical.
  • Provide clear instructions/directions.
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly by radio and telephone.
  • FRA knowledge would be preferred.

About HRRC We are a short-line railroad that has a north-south line from Pittsfield, MA to Danbury, CT and an east-west line from Danbury, CT to Derby, CT covering over 160 miles. We provide local service to customers throughout western Connecticut and Massachusetts. We interchange with CSX in Pittsfield, MA. Our trains operate 6 days per week and our crews enjoy the comfort of going home every night. All our employees have railroad retirement tax status. We provide competitive pay and benefits.
