JOB FUNCTION
Operates the fare lane probe process by downloading validator data, unlocking validator housings, removing onboard fare collection boxes, and docking boxes into stationary vaults. This role supports accurate fare collection processing while maintaining control of onboard fare boxes and required documentation. Essential Functions Sign in at the beginning of shift and retrieves the assigned probe device and access card from the locked supply cabinet. Verifies all stationary vaults are closed, sealed, free of fault indicators, and staged with empty pumpkins before service begins. Confirms bus identification and operator information for buses entering the fare lane as required. Probes the GenFare validator and waits for confirmation that data has been downloaded and the validator housing has unlocked. Removes the onboard fare collection box and always maintains physical control of the box. Carries the onboard fare collection box directly to a stationary vault for dumping into the pumpkin. Retrieves the empty onboard box, reinserts it into the validator, and confirms the validator re-locks before releasing the bus. Records bus number, validator ID, stationary vault used, and time on Probe Log P-01. Returns the probe and access card to the locked cabinet at end of shift and sign them back in. Submits completed Probe Log P-01 to Finance Oversight at the end of the shift or workday. Reports spills, equipment faults, jams, and procedural exceptions immediately to the Coin Room Lead. Marginal Functions Assists with readiness checks in the fare lane before bus processing begins. Support related operational documentation as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to learn and operate handheld probe devices, validator housings, onboard fare collection boxes, and stationary vault procedures. Ability to maintain accurate operational records and log entries. Strong attention to detail, time management, and procedural compliance. Ability to work safely around buses and fare lane equipment. Ability to communicate effectively with operators, supervisors, and Finance Oversight staff. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Experience in transit operations, cash handling, secure processing, or preferred related operations. Basic ability to use handheld equipment and follow written procedures. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and carry onboard fare boxes during the shift. Ability to work in outdoor or semi-covered transit operating areas. Ability to safely navigate around moving buses and equipment. Working Conditions Work is performed primarily in the fare lane in a time-sensitive operating environment.
