SUMMARY:

Ensure efficient use of district vehicles to meet the transportation needs of the district.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

General Busing:

Utilizes routing software to create and adjust bus routes to maximize safety, efficiency, and timeliness. Balances ride times with distance, road conditions, and traffic patterns. Optimize routes to ensure buses are not overcrowded or underutilized Evaluates transportation needs and recommends changes or alterations of routes to supervisors. Informs drivers, schools, and parents of new routes. Publishes route information and times. Assigns students to appropriate bus routes based on their residential address and school of attendance. Ensures compliance with district policies, attendance boundaries, and transportation eligibility requirements.

Special Needs Busing:

Creates and adjusts bus routes for students with special needs, taking into account specific supports outlined in IEPs. Coordinates the specific needs and accommodations for students with special needs such as harnesses, wheelchairs, or monitors. Work with special education staff to ensure appropriate pick-up/drop-off procedures. Communicates effectively with transportation special needs drivers and monitors, parents, and school personnel. Creates and adjusts bus routes for students in McKinney-Vento program Provides route instructions and updates to drivers and monitors. Address concerns or complaints regarding routes, schedules, or stops.

Field Trip Busing:

Coordinates, schedules, and confirms transportation for all field trips and extracurricular activities. Ensures appropriate vehicles and drivers are assigned in accordance with trip requirements, vehicle availability Maintains and updates field trip calendars, logs, and schedules. Reviews and verifies field trip request forms for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with district policies. Communicate trip logistics and expectations to drivers and school staff. Ensure all trip paperwork, including manifests and route sheets, is completed, distributed, and filed correctly. Act as liaison between school sites and the transportation department regarding trip changes, cancellations, and issues. Perform data entry and generate reports related to field trip usage, mileage, cost, and other relevant metrics. Perform other duties within the department as needed.

EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have current or previous bus driving experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Current First Aid and CPR certificates. Current Arizona Driver's License.
