Van Driver 2 Monroe Street, Norwalk, CT 06854 $25.00 - $25.07 an hour - Part-time $25.00 - $25.07 an hour - Part-time Van Driver (Part-Time)
Reports To:
Assistant Director of Learning Centers Position Summary The Van Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and reliable transportation of Learning Center students and Norwalk Housing Authority (NHA) residents using the Authority's van fleet. The position requires a strong commitment to safety, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with children, families, and staff. Essential Functions Follow transportation schedules as assigned by the Assistant Director of Learning Centers. Conduct daily inspections of assigned vehicles and complete required inspection forms. Maintain accurate records of routes, trips, and vehicle mileage. Ensure the cleanliness, maintenance, and overall upkeep of assigned vehicles. Safely transport students and residents while complying with all traffic laws and regulations. Report vehicle maintenance issues, accidents, or safety concerns immediately to the supervisor. Attend and successfully complete all required training programs. Assist with the transportation of supplies, food, boxes, and other materials to Learning Center locations as needed. Related Duties and Responsibilities Notify the Assistant Director and Lead Coordinators of any behavioral or disciplinary concerns involving student passengers. Keep the assigned work cell phone powered on and accessible during scheduled work hours to accommodate route changes or additional transportation requests. Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of and commitment to all vehicle safety rules and regulations. Ability to recognize and report concerns that may affect the health, safety, or well-being of students and residents. Experience transporting students is preferred. Experience operating seven-passenger or larger vans is preferred. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, Authority staff, residents, and community members. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of five (5) years of experience working with children. Clean driving record. Successful completion of child abuse and criminal background checks. Special Requirements Possession of a valid Public Service License (with Passenger Endorsement) or Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Ability to lift up to 35 pounds. Reliable transportation to and from work locations.
