Position Summary:

Transit Operators are responsible for safely transporting passengers along assigned routes while providing professional and courteous customer service. They operate buses or other transit vehicles, follow scheduled routes and time requirements, and ensure passengers reach their destinations safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

Safely operate transit buses according to established routes and schedules.

Pick up and drop off passengers at designated stops.

Assist passengers with boarding, exiting, and general transportation questions.

Collect fares or verify passenger passes when required.

Follow all traffic laws, safety procedures, and company policies.

Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.

Report vehicle maintenance issues, accidents, delays, and safety concerns.

Maintain accurate records, including passenger counts and incident reports.

Communicate with dispatch regarding route changes, emergencies, or service disruptions.

Provide courteous and professional customer service to passengers.

Maintain a clean and safe vehicle environment.

Respond appropriately to emergencies and unexpected situations.

Qualifications:

Valid driver's license; appropriate commercial driver's license (CDL) and endorsements may be required.

Clean or acceptable driving record.

Ability to pass required background checks, drug screening, and physical examination, where applicable.

Strong communication and customer-service skills.

Ability to work independently and follow established procedures.

Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.

Ability to work flexible schedules, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit and operate a vehicle for extended periods.

Ability to assist passengers when necessary.

Ability to enter and exit the transit vehicle repeatedly during a work shift.

Ability to perform basic vehicle safety inspections.
