Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and safety-conscious Pilot Car Driver to join our team and ensure the smooth, secure, and efficient movement of oversize or heavy haul loads across designated routes. As a Pilot Car Driver, you will serve as the essential escort for large or wide loads, guiding them through traffic, intersections, and challenging terrain. Your role is vital in maintaining safety standards, complying with transportation regulations, and supporting the successful delivery of complex freight. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where safety, precision, and communication are paramount. Responsibilities Escort oversized or heavy haul loads along designated routes, ensuring safe passage through traffic and construction zones Communicate effectively with drivers of escort vehicles, trucking crews, and traffic control personnel to coordinate movements Monitor road conditions, traffic patterns, and weather to adapt routes as needed for safety and efficiency Conduct pre-trip inspections of your vehicle to ensure all safety equipment is operational and properly maintained Assist with load security checks and provide guidance during load loading and unloading processes when necessary Maintain detailed logs of routes traveled, times, incidents, and communication records for compliance purposes Follow all federal, state, and local transportation regulations related to pilot car operations and oversized load escorts Qualifications Proven experience in commercial driving, shuttle driving, or as a delivery driver with a focus on route driving or heavy haul operations Knowledge of heavy equipment operation including forklifts, pallet jacks, or dump trucks is a plus Familiarity with various types of commercial vehicles such as tractor-trailers, flatbeds, box trucks, or limousines Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with drivers, traffic authorities, and clients Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles safely over long distances and challenging terrains Mechanical knowledge for basic vehicle maintenance checks and troubleshooting Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; commercial driver's license (CDL) preferred but not mandatory depending on jurisdiction Physical ability to perform load & unload tasks when required; comfortable working in outdoor environments in varying weather conditions This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in active roles that require attention to detail, safety awareness, and excellent communication.
