Ronald McDonald House Charities South Texas is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that focuses on the critical needs of children by operating programs that provide families with access to pediatric healthcare during the stress and uncertainty of a medical crisis. Our mission is keeping children near the care they need so families can get better together.Position Overview:
The Shuttle Driver plays a vital role in supporting families served by Ronald McDonald House by providing safe, reliable, and compassionate transportation to and from hospitals, medical facilities, and the House. This position requires a courteous, service‑oriented individual who upholds the mission, values, and standards of Ronald McDonald House while ensuring the safety, comfort, and dignity of all passengers.Reports To:

From $18/hrOverall Responsibilities:
Transportation & Safety Safely operate a shuttle van to transport guest families, volunteers, staff, and donors as scheduled. Follow all traffic laws, safety regulations, and organizational driving policies. Assist passengers with boarding, exiting, and securing seatbelts; assist with limited mobility as needed. Ensure on‑time arrivals for hospital appointments and pickups. Vehicle Care & Maintenance Conduct pre‑ and post‑trip vehicle inspections. Maintain vehicle cleanliness and sanitation standards. Report maintenance needs, safety issues, or repairs promptly. Coordinate routine vehicle servicing as assigned. Guest Support & Service Provide friendly, respectful, and empathetic service to families experiencing medical stress. Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity toward guests' personal situations. Serve as a positive ambassador of Ronald McDonald House in the community. Assist in other areas of the House including maintenance, housekeeping, and guest services as needed. Other duties as assigned by COO/CEO. Documentation & Communication Maintain accurate trip logs, mileage records, and incident reports. Communicate schedule changes, delays, or issues with House staff. Follow emergency procedures as trained. Education & Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Required High School Diploma or GED Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Minimum age requirement as mandated by state law and insurance provider Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to pass a criminal background check, driving record check, and drug screening Strong interpersonal and customer service skills Reliable, punctual, and flexible availability Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish to support guest families Must pass pre-employment screenings including background check and drug test. Preferred Experience driving a shuttle, van, or passenger vehicle Experience working with families, patients, or in a nonprofit or healthcare environment Knowledge of local roads, hospitals, and medical facilities Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - May be representative, but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position. Ability to think proactively and respond appropriately. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff and the public. Must have a strong personal presence with the ability to represent the organization effectively both verbally and in written form. Ability to operate a passenger van safely and responsibly. Ability to relate to people of diverse backgrounds. Understand ethical behavior and business practices and ensure own behavior and the behavior of team is consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization. Possess strong organization skills, planning abilities, and attention to detail; must exhibit "follow through" on tasks and goals. Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence and self-confidence, and possess good listening skills. Ability to attend meetings/events outside of traditional working hours as necessary. Strong problem-solving ability with the ability to analyze multiple opinions and recommend positive solutions. Work Environment - Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job. Must be available to work irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Regular and predictable attendance is required. Physical Abilities - Physical demands commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Daily driving of 15 passenger company shuttle bus. Frequently required to remain in a stationary position. Ability to travel to other program sites or events as needed. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb stairs, use hands to finger feel, handle; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel; talk or hear.
