Basic Purpose:
Join a team of track laborers with a record of building and repairing railroad tracks for Union Pacific over 150 years! As a Track Laborer
  • Regional, you'll perform the maintenance, repairs and installations critical to the tracks that run through your assigned territory.
By repairing or replacing tracks as needed, you'll enable Union Pacific to move trains safely and efficiently to serve its customers throughout North America! We are powered by our people, will you join our team?
Basic Accountabilities:
  • Observe the condition of railroad tracks, track beds and track right-of-way for problems or defects
  • Remove and replace rails, rail anchors, spikes, ballast, ties and other parts as needed
  • Handle, help unload and move track materials and equipment from rail cars, carts or trucks and dig holes and trenches
  • Perform railroad track maintenance, repair, installation, including operating heavy equipment
  • Maintain track beds by cutting vegetation and brush when needed, and sweeping, picking and digging dust or snow from movable track parts
  • Understand and follow company and industry safety rules, practices and procedures
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors and/or customers and effectively handle high-pressure situations
  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
  • Perform other duties as assigned Licenses
  • Valid driver's license Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills to deliver information to coworker(s) and supervisor(s)
  • Experience reading and understanding instructions (examples may include: operating and safety rules, bulletins, special instructions, and federal regulatory documents) Work Conditions
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Agree to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection where the company requires

  • Must not have a current attendance status of 1st Offense, 2nd Offense, or Dismissal under a Union Pacific Attendance Policy
  • Must not have a current status of Training 1, Training 2 or Dismissal under a Union Pacific MAPS Policy

  • Willingness to practice safe work habits
  • Must be willing and able to work around large equipment such as railcars, locomotives and cranes
  • Travel Requirements:
    Frequent travel is required
  • Able to provide your own transportation

  • Able to perform physically strenuous work on a continuous basis and occasionally bend, stoop and kneel.
