Position Summary:
Performs imaging examinations on all ages of patients (newborn through geriatric), contributing to the efficient operations of the department and ensuring the quality and continuity of patient care. Uses specific training in imaging modality to provide excellent patient care. Performs responsibilities of receptionist/clerk or other department duties as needed.
Position Responsibilities:
Corroborates patient's clinical history with procedure, including appropriate times for follow up (mammography, lung cancer screen, bone density, some sonography exams). Assesses patient condition, determines possibility of pregnancy, maintains viability of all patient lines, and assures patient safety through proper use of restraints/support devices and observation. Ability to make decisions regarding imaging evaluations; reading charts, gathering pertinent lab values, interacting with and providing reports to radiologists and/or attending physicians as required. Prepares patient for procedures; providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimized anxiety. Demonstrate competency and proficiency in utilizing all required equipment and accessories. Complete equipment start-up, shut-down, and QC as needed. Select appropriate protocol within imaging equipment for desired protocol. Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort. Immobilizes patient as required for appropriate examination - follows providers orders regarding any use of restraints. Verifies informed consent and assists Radiologist or medical provider during procedures, applies aseptic surgical techniques as needed. Performs examinations in an accurate and timely manner by responding to changes in the work schedule, handling interruptions, emergency studies, scheduling inquiries, and functioning as a productive imaging technologist and completing assignments prior to shift termination according to departmental procedure. Evaluates images for technical quality and manipulates display parameters. Performs imaging QA/QC duties including evaluating images for technical quality as requires by department standards. Performs transfer of imaging to digital equipment (PACs) and other workstations as needed. Maintains archival storage of data as appropriate. Initiates basic life support actions when necessary. Provides patient education. Assists in maintaining patient records, respecting confidentiality and established policy. Assumes responsibility for assigned area and reports operational and/or equipment malfunction to supervisor. Participates in orientation and training of new employees and other health care professionals as requested by supervisor, included clinical instruction as necessary. Participates in the department's quality assessment and improvement plan. May be responsible for specific quality control duties. Maintains knowledge of and observes universal precautions. Ability to work considerately with other staff and coworkers. Respectful of others strengths and abilities and supportive of their efforts to provide superior patient care. Placing high value on the talents of coworkers. Performs imaging examinations according to departmental procedure and protocol. Demonstrates competency and proficiency in utilizing all required diagnostic equipment. Reports operational and/or equipment problems immediately to supervisor or designee. Performs examinations in an accurate and timely manner by responding to changes in the work schedule, handling interruptions, scheduling patients, functioning as a productive technologist and completing assignments prior to shift termination according to departmental procedure. Applies principles of radiation protection, when appropriate, to minimize exposure to patient, self and others. Reviews requests/reports for completeness and correctness to ensure proper patient care and charges. Willingly learns/orients to duties of other imaging staff and fills in for other positions/duties as needed to facility patient care and smooth operation of the imaging department. Performs clerical duties as needed to provide complete coverage of department positions. Works proactively in helping to train and develop other staff members and willingly accepts responsibility for other duties as assigned by department supervisor or designee. Maintain certification through continuing education requirements. Ensuring knowledge of upcoming changes with the imaging field. Exercises professional judgement in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Performs imaging procedures to accurately demonstrate cross sectional anatomic images for interpretation. Provides appropriate patient care and education. Recognizes patient's conditions to facilitate successful completion of procedures. Abide by current ACR standards for positioning. Prepare and send out letters at conclusion of patient exam. Advocate for routine breast cancers screening for patients.

Position Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited Radiology Technologist program with dedicated mammography training Current ARRT (R) and ARRT (M) Certifications are required Current ACLS Certification Current PALS Certification Current BLS Certification Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification Minimum of two (2) years post-graduation experience. Initial training in digital mammography and tomosynthesis required. Meets current MQSA requirements including 15 breast CEU within 36 months and 200 mammography exams in 24 months preferred. Ability to perform mammography studies including routing screening and specialized diagnostic views preferred. Recent x-ray experience preferred, Fuji experience preferred.
