Regular Appointment; Full-Time; On-CallBACKGROUND
The Tribal First Responder provides immediate crisis response and suicide prevention support for community members experiencing behavioral health orother crisies on St. Paul Island in addition to connection with the appropriate entity for long-term intervention. This position focuses on de-escalation, stabilization, and connection to services, this position does not provide law enforcement, therapeutic, or medical care services. The Tribal First Responder works collaboratively with the Village Public Safety Officer (VPSO), behavioral health providers, and other Tribal Government departments to support individuals in crisis and to promote community safety through trauma-informed and culturally grounded practices. This is a full-time, on-call position requiring availability outside regular business hours.JOB SUMMARY
The Aleut Community of St. Paul Island (ACSPI) is seeking a compassionate, steady, and community-centered individual to serve as a Tribal First Responder. This position responds to behavioral health and other individual or family crises, providing de-escalation, stabilization, and emotional support to individuals in distress. The Tribal First Responder does not provide medical care or law enforcement services but works collaboratively with the Village Public Safety Officer (VPSO), behavioral health providers, and other Tribal Government departments to ensure individuals are safely connected to appropriate services. This role requires on-call availability and the ability to respond calmly and professionally in high-stress situations.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS
The following are essential job responsibilities and functions of theTribal First Responder:
Crisis Response & Suicide Prevention Respond to behavioral health and other crises calls Provide suicide prevention intervention and emotional stabilization Utilize trauma-informed de-escalation techniques Remain with individuals in crisis until they are stabilized or connected to appropriate services Coordinate with VPSO when safety concerns arise Support safe transitions to behavioral health , medical, clinic providers, emergency transport, or other entities involved Connection to Services Provide immediate emotional support and grounding techniques Assist individuals in accessing behavioral health services, treatment, safety supports or court-related supports when appropriate Offer follow-up resource connection (as directed by Tribal Government department staff) Documentation & Confidentiality Complete clear and accurate incident documentation Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information Follow Tribal Government policies and reporting protocols Collaboration Work closely with Tribal Government department staff, behavioral health providers, VPSO, Tribal Court, and St. Paul Health Center staff Participate in crisis response trainings and multidisciplinary coordination meetings Maintain professional boundaries and sound judgment in high-stress situation Competencies and Skills Required Strong suicide prevention and crisis intervention skills Ability to remain calm and regulated in high-stress situations Strong verbal communication and active listening skills Cultural humility and respect for Tribal values Sound judgment and professional boundaries Ability to work independently while coordinating with a response team Does not use drugs or alcohol, as the position is on-call 24/7QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age Must have a high school diploma or GED Experience in behavioral health, crisis response, social services, or related field preferred Suicide prevention training required (ASIST, QPR, or similar- or ability to obtain within 30 days) CPR certification preferred (not required for medical response, but recommended) Valid driver's license Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment Willingness to obtain required certifications or training as directed Must agree to be subject to thorough background investigation and personal interviews by the ACSPI Human Resources and personnel, including being subject to fingerprinting and a search of local, state, and national records and fingerprint files. Must be able to pass a Tribal, State, and Federal Criminal background check with fingerprintingunder PL 101-630 andUSC 3207.
All background checks will also be reviewed utilizing the BarrierCrime Matrix Must abide by the ACSPI's alcohol and drug free workplace policies and submit to a pre-employment alcohol and drug test.SALARY AND BENEFITS
This is a salary position ranging from $80,000-$95,000, depending on education, experience, and skills. Benefits include, Paid Time Off (Starting at 6 hours per pay period/156 hours per year); 16 Paid Holidays, Health Benefits; 401K; Employee Education Assistance.DEADLINE
