DESCRIPTION
BENEFITS QUESTIONS Job Summary Under general supervision, is responsible for performing engineering work and executing varied preparatory work for an engineering work program in a major City department. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment. May exercise functional supervision over assigned staff. Work Location Cliff Morton Development and Business Services Center (One Stop)

  • Friday Essential Job Functions Performs the necessary preliminary work for the design and construction of public works projects.
Directs subordinate personnel in the performance of all preparatory work (depending on area of assignment). Revises project plans and specifications and legal requirements. Inspects construction in progress for conformance with plans and specifications and makes adjustments when necessary. Coordinates with other divisions, departments, or municipal agencies on projects under design. Meets with consultants on various projects to discuss designs and design problems. Prepares cost estimates and monitors budgets on assigned projects. Responds to citizen inquiries and complaints regarding assigned projects. Provides technical assistance to other divisions and departments. Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required. Job Requirements Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college, university, or engineering school approved by a State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and no experience. No substitution for education allowed. Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License. Preferred Qualifications Experience with computer aided drafting. Knowledge of street construction and or/ transportation project engineering practices, methods, and procedures. Applicant Information Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university. Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of engineering principles and practices. Knowledge of engineering mathematics. Knowledge of surveying and drafting principles and practices. Ability to operate a computer keyboard and other basic office equipment. Skill in operating a personal computer and utilizing rudimentary software. Ability to learn Federal and State regulations and City ordinances related to the area assigned. Ability to determine types of field data needed as basis for satisfactory design and develop complete construction plans. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Ability to interpret and properly apply all applicable regulations.
