Position Title Undergraduate Assistant•Dental Materials Research Assistant Posting Number 08159 Position Number 08159 Student Job Category Student•Undergraduate Assistant Number of Vacancies 1 Job Description ECU Department of Dental Medicine is seeking a motivated undergraduate student to assist with research focused on developing next-generation antibiofilm dental materials. This position provides hands-on research experience ideal for students interested in dentistry, biomaterials, biomedical research, or graduate/professional school. Research Focus Our lab develops antibiofilm dental materials using reverse-amide 2-aminoimidazole compounds to prevent secondary caries associated with: Bonded resin composite restorations Ceramic and metal restorations Orthodontic resin cements Sealants and resin infiltrants Glass ionomer materials Endodontic irrigants We also study degradation of the aged hybrid layer in bonded restorations using advanced imaging and analytical techniques such as: Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) Confocal microscopy nanoCT imaging In situ zymography The undergraduate assistant will support multiple ongoing projects and gain exposure to modern dental biomaterials research. Responsibilities Assist with preparation and testing of dental material specimens Support laboratory experiments and data collection Help with microscopy sample preparation and imaging Conduct literature searches and summarize findings Maintain organized lab notebooks and research records Participate in lab meetings and assist graduate students and faculty Preferred (Majors, Experience, GPA, etc.) Required Qualifications Sophomore or Junior undergraduate student Major in Biology, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or Pre-DentistryMinimum GPA:
