Job Description
CRHC is looking for a full time (36 hours/week) Unit Coordinator to join our team in our MedSurg department. This position is scheduled Monday through Friday, consisting of three 12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with rotating weekends.
PRIMARY FUNCTION
Responsible for Advancing Exceptional Care by prioritizing Safety and Quality in every aspect of patient care. This role is committed to fulfilling essential duties that enhance patient outcomes, operational efficiency, and overall healthcare standards, ensuring all actions align with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of Clarinda Regional Health Center (CRHC) . Education and/or Experience One (1) year experience in customer service preferred. The facility operates 24/7; however, work schedules may vary based on departmental needs to ensure the highest standard of patient care and operational efficiency. Flexibility will be expected. On-call availability as needed. Weekend and Holiday rotation as needed. Eligible for shift differentials where applicable. Position is classified as non-exempt and eligible for overtime in accordance with labor laws.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

The Unit Coordinator serves as the central communication hub for the Med-Surg unit, ensuring timely coordination between patients, providers, nursing staff, and ancillary departments. The role supports unit operations by managing orders, documentation, patient flow (admissions, discharges, transfers), and maintaining accurate records in compliance with regulatory standards. The Unit Coordinator also promotes patient safety, supports quality improvement initiatives, and ensures efficient use of resources in alignment with organizational, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and DNV requirements. Communication & Care Coordination Serves as the central point of communication for the unit, ensuring timely and accurate information flow among staff, providers, patients, and ancillary departments. Communicates patient updates, test results, and care coordination needs to the appropriate team members promptly. Utilizes standardized communication tools (e.g., SBAR) to support safe and effective information exchange. Answers, prioritizes, and directs phone calls, messages, and electronic communications in a timely and professional manner. Greets and directs patients, families, and visitors, ensuring professional and customer-focused experience. Escalates delays, barriers, or safety concerns to nursing leadership as appropriate. Documentation Ensures accurate, timely, and complete documentation to support patient care, billing, and regulatory compliance Maintains confidentiality and protects patient information in compliance with HIPAA standards. Verifies and updates patient demographic and insurance information as required. Operational & Throughput Support Coordinates unit workflow to support efficient admissions, discharges, and transfers. Facilitate communication between departments to minimize delays in patient care and services. Supports scheduling, tracking, and follow-up of diagnostic tests, procedures, and consults. Supply & Resource Management Monitors and maintains unit supplies, equipment, and forms to support continuous operations. Communicates supply needs to leadership and restocks as appropriate. Promotes efficient and responsible use of hospital resources. Patient Safety & Regulatory Compliance Supports compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation, DNV standards, and organizational policies. Identifies and reports patient, environmental, or operational safety risks promptly. Supports infection prevention, emergency preparedness, and patient safety initiatives. Demonstrates knowledge of unit processes and equipment to support safe care delivery. Professional Accountability Perform duties within defined role expectations and scope of responsibility. Demonstrates professionalism, accountability, and reliability in all interactions. Supports CRHC's mission of Advancing Exceptional Care . Quality Program Participation Actively participates in CRHC's Quality Program, committees, performance improvement initiatives, and operational support activities. Demonstrates a commitment to Quality Improvement (QI) practices. Regularly attends Department huddles. Completes tasks as outlined on the Department Huddle Board.
