Location:
Dover, DELAWARE General Description of the Position The University Social Media Specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing social media strategies that enhance the university's online presence and engage current and prospective students, alumni, and the broader community. This role requires creativity, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of social media trends and best practices. Photographs, films, and edits, events, locations, people, students, faculty, staff, etc., or other illustrative or educational material for use in marketing materials, publications, website, social media, digital, or any marketing spaces as directed by leadership. This position reports to the SAVP, Marketing & Communications. Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
Content Creation:
Develop engaging and relevant content for various social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, DSU HUB, TikTok) that aligns with the University's mission and goals to boost the DSU brand, increase visibility and drive enrollment.
Social Media Management:
Monitor, manage, and grow the university's social media accounts; respond to comments and messages in a timely manner.
Strategy Development:
Collaborate with marketing and communications teams and colleges to create comprehensive social media strategies that support recruitment, retention, and engagement efforts.
Analytics and Reporting:
Track and analyze social media performance metrics; prepare regular reports to assess the effectiveness of social media campaigns and initiatives.
Collaboration:
Work with faculty, staff, and student organizations to promote events, achievements, and news through social media channels.
Trend Monitoring:
Stay updated on industry trends, emerging platforms, and best practices to enhance the university's social media presence.
Training and Support:
Provide training and support to staff and student organizations on effective social media practices.
Social Media Monitoring:
Monitor social media channels to identify and respond to comments, questions, and direct messages, mitigating potential brand exposure and maintaining a positive online presence. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The individual in this job must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Social Media:
Familiarity with platforms, functions, SEO, SMO, and best practices.
Digital Imaging:
Knowledge of technology, techniques, methods, editing and formats in digital imaging.
Writing Skills:
Strong writing skills for creating engaging content and effective communication.
Equipment and Tools:
Proficiency in the equipment, tools, and supplies used for capturing, processing, enhancing, and utilizing photographs and videography, including various cameras/lenses, image processing software, and lighting types.
Canva Design:
Proficient in using Canva for creating social media posts.
Data Analysis Skills:
Proficient in analyzing social media metrics, including impressions, reach, and shares, to assess content performance. Ability to interpret data trends and insights to inform strategy, optimize engagement, and enhance overall social media effectiveness.
Copyright and Privacy:
Understanding of copyright regulations and privacy laws regarding images, music, and content usage.
Photography/Videography Techniques:
Knowledge of materials, techniques, and media in photography and videography on social platforms.
HBCU and Post-Secondary Culture:
Understanding and appreciation of HBCU and post-secondary culture and storytelling.
Content Creative Techniques:
Capable of utilizing visual techniques to achieve diverse effects and communicate messages that enhance social media engagement, showcasing students, faculty, alumni, partners, influencers and the community.
Lighting and Sound:
Understanding of the uses and effects of different types of lighting and sound methods.
Deadline Management:
Capability to work creatively under tight deadlines.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to regularly move 50 pounds.
Quick Turnaround:
Ability to meet quick deadlines effectively.
Team Collaboration:
Work efficiently with others.
Schedule Management:
Maintain and communicate work schedules on and off campus. Qualification Standards Bachelor's degree in mass communications, Digital Media, Marketing, or a related field. Knowledge of SEO and SMO digital marketing strategies and compliance.
Successful Experience:
Social media management and content creation. Strong writing, editing, and communication skills. Social media analytics tools and scheduling platforms such as Hootsuite a must. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
