HELLO & WELCOME
Join a well-run, high-volume charter operation offering one of Long Island's most unique and consistent seasonal captain opportunities. Cruisin' Tikis and Paddle Pub Long Island operates US Coast Guard-approved vessels hosting private group experiences including birthdays, bachelorettes, sunset cruises, corporate events, and social outings across Huntington Harbor/Huntington Bay and the Patchogue River/Great South Bay . Our experiences are high-energy and guest-focused — but behind the scenes, we run a tight, safety-first, professional operation .
THE ROLE
This position serves as a USCG Licensed Captain responsible for the safe and professional operation of our Cruisin' Tikis and Paddle Pub vessels. While safety and vessel control are always the top priority, this is also a guest-facing role . Our Paddle Pubs are crewed with a captain and a cruise director. On our tiki boats, captains are the primary point of interaction for guests — meaning you should be: Approachable Personable Comfortable engaging with groups You are not expected to be a full entertainer — but you should be able to read the room, communicate clearly, and contribute to a positive, fun atmosphere . VESSELS Cruisin' Tikis are 16' x 16' US Coast Guard-approved vessels featuring a unique circular design with the captain positioned centrally, surrounded by a wraparound tiki bar and seating.
Each vessel includes:
Full perimeter railings Overhead thatched-style canopy 30HP outboard engine Safety equipment exceeding requirements for vessels in this class Paddle Pubs are 35' x 11' US Coast Guard 26-passenger COI vessels featuring a large paddle wheel at the stern which passengers can pedal around the central rectangular bar design, or sit comfortably in the lounge at the bow.
Each vessel includes:
Full perimeter railings Overhead vinyl roof with removable fabric canopy bow section 90HP outboard engine Onboard head
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Vessel & Safety:
Safe operation and navigation at all times Passenger safety briefings Docking, undocking, anchoring, and route execution Monitoring weather and water conditions Maintaining full US Coast Guard compliance
Guest Experience:
Creating a welcoming, comfortable environment for all passengers Engaging with guests in a friendly, professional manner Supporting a fun, relaxed onboard atmosphere Reading group dynamics and adapting communication style
Operations:
Cleaning and prepping the vessel before and after cruises Maintaining dock, marina, and vessel cleanliness Communicating with management regarding operations and maintenance
WHAT MAKES THIS ROLE UNIQUE
Structured, repeatable routes in protected waters High-energy but controlled guest environment No heavy tour narration required Ability to work independently while supported by a strong team Balance of professional vessel operation and social atmosphere This role is ideal for captains who take pride in running a tight operation , while still enjoying interaction with guests.
EARNINGS
$55+/hour total earnings (base + tips) Typical take-home: $140
  • 225 per charter Top-performing captains on busy weekends consistently earn on the higher end of this range.
SCHEDULE
Seasonal:
May through October Tours operate daily, with the majority on: Friday evenings Saturdays Sundays Operating hours: 11:00 AM
  • 11:00 PM Captains may run 1-4 cruises per day depending on availability
IDEAL CANDIDATE
We are looking for captains who are: Safety-focused and highly reliable Professional and accountable Calm, confident, and adaptable Strong communicators Comfortable interacting with a wide range of guests Experience in hospitality, events, or guest interaction is a plus. Captains who naturally engage with guests and help elevate the onboard atmosphere tend to perform best in this role. You will encounter a variety of groups, including occasional bilingual guests — the ability to communicate clearly and create a welcoming environment for all passengers is important.
REQUIREMENTS
Valid USCG Captain's License (25 ton masters or higher) Current CPR / First Aid Certification Must pass US Coast Guard-required drug testing Clean driving and boating record Ability to lift 50 lbs (ex: coolers with ice) Weekend availability required (Friday-Sunday) MROP required prior to first passenger cruise (can be obtained after interview if not already held)
