Part Time Job Summary Renaissance Academy Charter School has an immediate opening for a responsible, patient, and reliable person to join our team as a Van Driver. Under general supervision of the Business Manager, to operate a student transportation vehicle over designated routes within an established time schedule; to transport students to and from assigned locations. Driver will provide safe and secure transportation for students by ensuring van safety through regular inspections, maintenance, and cleaning for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation of vehicle. The driver will adhere to state traffic laws and safety regulations and academy transportation guidelines. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Safety Ensures that all children are secured in an individual seat belt before engine is started, if available Assists students (e.g. seating, restraints, special equipment, etc.) for the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading from vehicles including both emergency situations and normal transport. Maintains prescribed rules and regulations to provide for the safety of pupils while boarding, riding or leaving the van. Monitors passengers during transit for the purpose of maintaining order and ensuring the safety of passengers. Performs first aid as necessary for the purpose of meeting the immediate health care needs of passengers. Regulates heating, lighting, and ventilation for comfort. Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations for the purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the situation. Immediately report any delays or accidents. Attendance Takes and maintains appropriate attendance records of children at each pick-up location and ensures all children are accounted for; maintains a copy of the enrollment record for each school-age child, which includes complete and updated emergency card information and child's photo; Completes and maintains seating charts, disciplinary documentation, and updated student information as required. Maintenance Performs pre•and post vehicle inspection activities to ensure proper operating conditions, adherence to prescribed Department of Transportation and district standards and compliance with proper safety standards; notify Supervisor when maintenance is needed, and takes vehicle for quarterly maintenance Cleans and services vehicles with fuel, lubricants, and accessories and checks tire pressure and adjusts mirrors; maintains a record of quantities used and miles driven Maintains assigned vehicles, both interior and exterior (e.g. cleaning floors/windows/seats/windshield/rear-view mirrors/headlights/tail-lights, etc.) Keep clean at all times; sweeps interior van floor and empties trash daily Communication Communicates with parents, students, teachers, administrators, etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or receiving information. Monitors daily school van activities to ensure proper student conduct and adheres to appropriate disciplinary controls Informs school personnel, parents, etc. of practices and incidents (e.g. rules, regulations, laws, procedures, suspicious situations,etc.) for the purpose of providing information for follow-up action and/or proper procedures. Training Attends meetings, training, etc. for the purpose of maintaining skills and meeting District and State requirements. Qualifications High school diploma or GED Must have a valid PA drivers license and two years of driving experience with a satisfactory driving record. Have no chargeable accidents within the past 24 months Have no more than 5 traffic violation points under state law or converted from other states' point systems Have no convictions (within the past 5 years) for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs or other major violations, such as reckless driving, hit and run, driving with a suspended license, or fleeing from a police officer Knowledge of the Department of Transportation Guidelines for transporting children. Requires the ability to successfully meet and comply with drug and alcohol testing standards. Demonstrated ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work. Must possess the temperament to work with students. Must be able to lift no less than 40 pounds on a consistent basis throughout the workday to at least waist high. Must submit to pre-employment, random, and post-accident drug testing. Please include a resume.
