Dryden Community Schools is a small, student-centered district committed to academic excellence, athletic growth, and strong community values. Our athletic department emphasizes character, sportsmanship, hard work, and the development of well-rounded student-athletes. Dryden Jr/Sr High School competes as a member of the Big Thumb Conference and fields competitive teams in multiple sports.
Position Summary:
Dryden Jr/Sr High School is seeking a dynamic, organized, and knowledgeable Head Volleyball Coach for the 2026-27 school year. The ideal candidate will build positive relationships with student-athletes, create a competitive and inclusive program culture, collaborate with teachers and administrators, and demonstrate a strong understanding of both the technical and strategic aspects of volleyball. The Head Coach oversees all aspects of the volleyball program including practice planning, program identity and culture, offseason development, communication, and coordination within the athletic department. Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and conduct high-quality practices that develop age-appropriate skills, team systems, and competitive strategies.
  • Create, develop, and implement a strong offseason program that builds interest, improves skills, and promotes year-round development.
  • Establish and communicate a clear program identity and long-term vision for the volleyball program.
  • Build and maintain a positive, student-centered culture focused on growth, teamwork, accountability, and sportsmanship.
  • Define roles clearly to maximize athlete potential and help students embrace their responsibilities within the team.
  • Evaluate and develop student-athletes at all ability levels while encouraging multi-sport participation.
  • Manage and mentor assistant and sub-varsity coaches, delegating effectively to build a cohesive coaching staff.
  • Monitor academic performance and partner with teachers to support student success.
  • Scout opponents and prepare film-based scouting reports, practice plans, and match strategies.
  • Communicate proactively and professionally with athletes, families, teachers, administrators, and media outlets.
  • Promote the program within the community and work collaboratively with the Boosters and other district coaches.
  • Maintain compliance with MHSAA, league, and district rules, and complete all required safety training (concussion, CPR/First Aid, heat/humidity).
  • Adhere to athletic department timelines, fundraising guidelines, and budgeting procedures.
  • Oversee care, organization, and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Successful coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level, or significant competitive playing background.
  • CAP I certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Strong understanding of volleyball fundamentals, skill development, game systems, and in-game adjustments.
  • Ability to communicate a compelling program vision and earn the trust of student-athletes, families, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate athletes through positive coaching, constructive instruction, and a growth mindset.
  • Strong organizational skills, including meeting deadlines, managing logistics, and following district processes.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Commitment to supporting academic achievement and whole-student development.
Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to pass background checks required by Dryden Community Schools and the State of Michigan.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn MHSAA regulations and expectations.
