Visual Arts Adjunct Instructor

The University of Olivet, a liberal arts institution with an historical commitment to inclusion, diversity, and social justice, seeks in-person Adjunct Instructors in Visual Arts for the Fall 2026 semester and beyond. In particular, instructors with experience in Sculpture and/or teaching foundational visual arts classes are encouraged to apply. We have openings for both studio sculpting and foundational classes. This posting represents positions available for in-person, daytime or evening instruction on The University of Olivet campus. Adjunct instructor positions are part-time. Teaching assignments will vary from semester to semester, with most classes meeting twice each week for 15 weeks. The University of Olivet's visual arts program is a studio-based model that emphasizes drawing, realism, and disciplined skill development while welcoming students at all levels of preparation. We currently offer drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, and graphic design in small, relationship-focused studio courses. Alongside traditional technical mastery, the program emphasizes a broad view of art over time and through various cultures. It intentionally engages questions of character, responsibility, and purpose, culminating in a senior project that integrates artistic practice with reflection on Olivet's commitment to Education for Individual and Social Responsibility. Students from underrepresented minorities constitute 26% of the current student body, with almost 20% of the student body identifying as African American. Approximately half of the student body is Pell grant eligible. Members of historically underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

Primary responsibilities:

Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments and papers. Prepare and deliver instructional materials (i.e. syllabi, homework assignments, and project instructions) in-person and via the Online Learning Management System. Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions. Compile, administer, and grade assessments. Participate in required reporting processes (i.e. grades, attendance, etc.).

Qualifications :

Earned Master of Fine Arts (MFA) required. A focus in sculpture is required for those who are applying to teach Sculpture. We seek candidates who are open to innovation and collaboration, who embrace Olivet's relationship-based approach to pedagogy, and who embody our commitment to inclusivity.
