Volunteer Mentor Coordinator 112 Pioneer Village Dr, Mountain City, TN 37683 Up to $25 an hour - Full-time Up to $25 an hour - Full-time VMI Program Coordinator Full‑Time | Based at the ARRC Recovery Center, 112 Pioneer Village Drive, Mountain City Tn. 37683 Position Summary The VMI Program Coordinator is responsible for implementing, managing, and growing the Volunteer Mentorship Initiative (VMI) in partnership with the Tennessee Office of the Governor's Faith‑Based & Community Initiatives. This position oversees the recruitment, training, placement, and ongoing support of volunteer mentors who serve individuals incarcerated at Northeast Correctional Complex and transitioning back into the community. The Coordinator ensures the program operates with excellence, compliance, and a trauma‑informed, relationship‑centered approach consistent with ARRC's mission. Key Responsibilities 1. Mentor Recruitment & Outreach Lead a county‑wide and regional recruitment strategy to build and maintain a pool of 50-100 volunteer mentors. Conduct outreach to churches, civic groups, employers, colleges, and recovery networks. Host information sessions, community presentations, and mentor interest events. Develop recruitment materials and manage digital outreach efforts. 2. Mentor Onboarding & Training Manage the full onboarding process: applications, background checks, facility clearance, and documentation. Coordinate required VMI mentor training and ARRC supplemental training (trauma‑informed care, boundaries, reentry navigation). Maintain accurate training records and ensure mentors meet all compliance requirements. 3. Mentor Support & Retention Provide ongoing supervision, encouragement, and problem‑solving support to mentors. Facilitate monthly check‑ins, quarterly mentor gatherings, and peer support opportunities. Monitor mentor engagement and address burnout or challenges early. Maintain a positive, mission‑driven volunteer culture. 4. Coordination With Correctional Facility & Community Partners Serve as the primary liaison to Northeast Correctional Complex staff. Attend
REQUIRED
bimonthly (2 times a month) in person mentor visits at NECX. Coordinate mentor scheduling, facility access, and communication protocols. Build strong relationships with probation/parole, recovery providers, employers, and community partners to support reentry success. 5. Participant Support & Program Navigation Ensure mentors understand reentry barriers and available community resources. Provide mentors with resource guides, referral pathways, and problem‑solving support. Track participant progress and ensure mentors have the tools needed to support successful transitions. 6. Data, Reporting & Compliance Maintain accurate records of mentor activities, matches, training, and outcomes. Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for the Governor's Office and ARRC leadership. Ensure compliance with all program, facility, and grant requirements. Use data to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities for improvement. 7. Program Development & Continuous Improvement Strengthen program policies, workflows, and documentation. Identify opportunities to expand mentor recruitment, improve training, and enhance mentor/participant outcomes. Support ARRC's broader recovery and reentry initiatives as needed. Qualifications Required Experience in community engagement, volunteer management, social services, recovery support, or related fields. Strong communication and relationship‑building skills. Ability to work with justice‑involved individuals in a trauma‑informed, non‑judgmental manner. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Comfort presenting to groups and facilitating training. Preferred Lived experience with recovery or reentry (self or family). Experience working with correctional facilities or reentry programs. Knowledge of rural community resources and barriers. Experience with data tracking, reporting, or grant‑funded programs. Familiarity with HubSpot data processing program. Work Environment & Schedule Full‑time position based at the ARRC Recovery Center. Regular travel within Johnson County and surrounding rural counties. Occasional evening or weekend events for recruitment or mentor support. Requires facility clearance and adherence to DOC protocols. Ideal Candidate Someone who is relationship‑driven, organized, compassionate, and energized by building a program from the ground up. Someone who can hold both structure and heart — and who believes deeply in the power of long‑term mentorship to change lives.
