POSITION SUMMARY
Working under the general supervision of the Town Engineer and the direct supervision of the Waste Transfer Station Supervisor, operates equipment and vehicles trained and licensed to operate at the Waste Transfer Station. Represented by the Guilford Employee Association (GEA).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures smooth operation of the waste transfer station and traffic flow. Oversees the recycling operation and directs residents to use proper receptacles. Maintains recycling area grounds including bins, trailers, roll-offs, and other facilities required by the recycling program. Operates the scale house, as needed. Maintains packer and other equipment in operating order. Maintains the Waste Transfer Station grounds and building, keeping it free of litter and debris. Provides snow removal for the site. Maintains record keeping of transactions. Prepares, proofs and submits deposits daily to the Finance Office. Composes, completes and submits other forms, reports and correspondence required for the day-to-day operation of the Waste Transfer Station. Keeps area clean and neat for safe use by the public. Required to, at times, handle multiple responsibilities. Complies with all proper safety procedures and regulations. Performs other duties as may be assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of mechanical principles. Ability to effectively communicate with fellow employees and the public. Knowledge of and ability to perform basic mathematics. Knowledge of computer functions, both in carrying out work related tasks and in assisting the public in their endeavors. Skills in dealing with the public, including flexibility. Skills in oral communication. Ability to pass a Human Performance Evaluation and Drug Test. Ability to follow all safety instructions, and maintain safety standards. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to make repairs on small tools and mechanical equipment. Ability to operate a backhoe, transfer truck, and other equipment necessary for daily operations. Ability to work on Saturdays. Ability to arrive at Waste Transfer Station during snow storms to assist with snow removal. Ability to work cooperatively and constructively in resolving issues or problems. Ability to comply with all applicable federal, state and local safety and health regulations that would apply to this job. Ability to meet and serve the public pleasantly, tactfully and informatively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors and colleagues. Ability to treat other employees, and those with whom they come into contact, including the public, with courtesy, respect and professionalism.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED), supplemented by one (1) year of experience. Must have and maintain valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Driver's License. Must have, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire, and maintain Solid Waste Facility (SWF) Operator's Certification through
CTDEEP. WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in all outside weather conditions. The employee will be required on occasion to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally may be required to work in high, precarious places, and may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electric shock. Job requires frequent interaction with general public. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but at times can be loud.
