Job Description

WATER PLANT LEAD OPERATOR
Public Utilities Department
MAJOR FUNCTIONS
This is responsible technical work involving the operation of the City of Auburndale Water Treatment Facilities. Work is performed under the supervision of the Plant Superintendent.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Responsible for developing, organizing, implementing and supervising the daily operation, repair and maintenance of the City's water treatment facilities. The successful applicant will be responsible for all sampling, analyzing and reporting requirements of the water treatment process to insure plants are operating within appropriate parameters and are within State and Federal guidelines. Assists in preparing the department's annual budget request, evaluates the City's water treatment plants needs and makes procedural and operational recommendations to the Superintendent. Operates City's communication (radio) system. The water treatment facility operates 24/7 including holidays; this position requires the applicant to be able to work all shifts/schedules as assigned including 24 hours on call availability. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, other federal, state and local government representatives, contractors, consultants, vendors and the general public is essential. Performs related non-essential duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE
Considerable knowledge of the principles, methods, practices, rules and regulation, procedures and operation of water treatment and distribution systems. Knowledge of applicable laws, policies and regulations affecting water treatment facilities and activities. Knowledge of related water rules and regulations on the local, state and federal level. Ability to interpret plans, blueprints and maps. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely (i.e. verbally and written). Graduation from High School or G.E.D. Completion of state approved training course for Class B Water Treatment Plant Operations The successful candidate will have at least three (3) years previous experience in the water utilities field. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the preferred education qualifications. Candidate is required to maintain a valid Florida Department of Environmental Protection Class "B" Operator certification in Water Treatment Plant Operation. Must have a valid Florida CDL (Class B) or able to obtain one within 90 days.

Monday thru Friday 8:00am - 5:00 pm Nights and weekends as needed.
HIRING RATE
$54,351 Annually
