Position Summary The Child Development Aide supports the operation of a high school-based child care program/lab as part of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program by assisting in the supervision, care, and developmental activities of young children (infants through preschool age). This position also supports instructional staff by modeling appropriate practices and helping maintain a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist in the supervision and care of children in accordance with program policies and licensing requirements Support implementation of developmentally appropriate activities in areas such as literacy, motor skills, social-emotional development, and creative play Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment Monitor children's behavior and guide positive social interactions Assist with daily routines including meals, snacks, toileting, rest time, and transitions Observe and report children's progress, needs, and concerns to supervising teacher Support high school students participating in the child development program by modeling appropriate caregiving techniques and professionalism Follow health and safety procedures, including sanitation and emergency protocols Communicate professionally with staff, students, and parents/guardians as needed Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations Attendance is an Essential Function of this Position Physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position. The role requires in-person collaboration, direct interaction with team members, other staff, students, and/or guardians, and access to on-site equipment and resources. Other Functions Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities (SKAs) Knowledge Basic principles of child growth and development (infant through early childhood) Developmentally appropriate practices and early learning activities Health, safety, and sanitation standards for child care settings Positive behavior management strategies Skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills with children, staff, and students Observation and documentation skills Ability to support structured and unstructured play activities Basic organization and time management skills Abilities Ability to work effectively with young children in a patient, nurturing manner Ability to model professionalism and appropriate caregiving for high school students Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively within a team Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency or high-stress situations Ability to maintain confidentiality Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Experience working with young children preferred (child care, preschool, or related setting) CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire) Background check clearance required Working Conditions Work is performed in a classroom/lab child care environment within a high school Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting (up to 40 lbs) Regular interaction with young children, high school students, and staff Exposure to typical classroom noise levels and activity Occasional exposure to bodily fluids; adherence to health and safety protocols required May require outdoor supervision in varying weather conditions Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry young children safely Ability to sit on the floor and engage in child-level activities Ability to move quickly to ensure child safety Adequate vision and hearing to supervise children effectively
