Job Title:
Welder & Fabricator Job Description This role focuses on welding and fitting in a custom job shop environment, working on the fabrication and manufacture of custom machinery and structures. You will use a wide range of welding processes, fabrication machinery, and hand tools while interpreting mechanical blueprints, CAD drawings, and welding symbols to produce high-quality, custom-built equipment. Responsibilities Perform welding and fitting tasks for custom machinery and structural projects in a job shop environment. Use SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW welding processes in all positions to complete a variety of fabrication assignments. Operate fabrication machinery such as plate shears, presses, ironworkers, drilling and tapping equipment, plate burning equipment, and plasma cutting systems. Use handheld oxygen/acetylene torches for cutting and fabrication tasks as required. Read, interpret, and work from mechanical blueprints, welding symbols, and CAD drawings to ensure accurate fabrication. Apply appropriate fabrication techniques involved in the manufacture of custom machinery and projects. Use fabrication hand tools, including drills, grinders, cutting tools, squares, and levels, to prepare, fit, and finish components. Safely operate overhead cranes and apply proper rigging techniques to move and position materials and assemblies. Safely operate lift trucks up to 8,000 pounds to transport materials and finished products within the facility. Assist in the preparation of equipment for painting, including cleaning, masking, and surface preparation. Support the assembly of equipment for shipping, ensuring components are properly fitted, secured, and documented. Participate in the testing of equipment to verify functionality and quality prior to shipment or installation. Assist with the installation of equipment at customer sites as needed. Perform other duties required in daily production to support smooth and efficient operations. Essential Skills Proficiency in SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), and GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) processes in all positions. Strong experience in welding and fitting for metal fabrication in a custom job shop environment. Ability to read and understand mechanical blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings. Proficiency in the use of fabrication techniques for the manufacture of custom machinery and projects. Ability to operate fabrication machinery, including plate shears, presses, ironworkers, drilling and tapping equipment, plate burning equipment, and plasma cutting systems. Proficiency with handheld oxygen/acetylene torches for cutting and fabrication. Skilled use of fabrication hand tools such as drills, grinders, cutting tools, squares, and levels. Understanding, proficiency, and safe use of overhead cranes and rigging techniques. Understanding, proficiency, and safe usage of lift trucks up to 8,000 pounds. Ability to read and understand CAD drawings related to fabrication projects. Additional Skills & Qualifications Welding certification may be required for some projects. Experience with metal fabrication, including MIG welding and general fabrication work. Experience as a fitter in a metal fabrication environment. Experience working in a custom machinery or custom fabrication shop. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Ability to collaborate with others in a production environment and support various stages of the build process, including painting preparation, assembly, testing, and installation. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a custom job shop focused on the fabrication and manufacture of machinery and structural projects. You will work around a variety of industrial equipment, including plate shears, presses, ironworkers, drilling and tapping machines, plate burning equipment, plasma cutters, overhead cranes, lift trucks, and handheld oxygen/acetylene torches. The role is hands-on and shop-floor based, involving regular use of fabrication hand tools such as drills, grinders, cutting tools, squares, and levels. Work is typically performed in a production environment where safety procedures and proper use of personal protective equipment are essential. The pace can vary depending on project requirements, with a mix of fabrication, fitting, assembly preparation, testing, and occasional on-site installation of equipment at customer locations. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $27.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
