Job Description

Summary :
Provides properly welded steel parts to a variety of internal and external customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Set up welding machine according to Resource Instructions. Mount tacked assembly into weld positioner with powered hoist. Operate the positioner and weld the assembly as specified on blueprints, work instructions, and/or work order travelers. Strike arc generating heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of penetration and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle. Examine weld for bead size, porosity, undercut, overlap, and other specifications and make required adjustments. Operate jib and overhead cranes and hoists in a safe and approved manner. May clean or degrease weld area using wire brush, powered grinder, or chemical bath. May repair parts requiring weld gouging with air arc or grinding prior to welding. May chip off excess weld and splatter using hand scraper or powered chipper. May require peening welds between passes using powered hammer. May cut plates with air-arc or oxy-acetylene torch. May tack parts into assembly prior to welding.

Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three month's related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend: simple instructions, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Legible handwriting is required.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability:

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Manufacturing software.
