Position Summary Centenary University seeks a Head Women's Basketball Coach to lead and develop a competitive NCAA Division III program that reflects the University's values of Curiosity, Respect, Innovation, Service, and Excellence. The Head Coach serves as an educator and mentor, responsible for recruiting, coaching, and developing student‑athletes academically, athletically, and personally. This position exists to ensure women's basketball contributes meaningfully to student success, campus vitality, and Centenary's mission-driven athletics culture. Core Responsibilities and Expected Outcomes 1) Coaching and Player Development Plan and conduct effective practices, training sessions, and competitions Teach sport-specific skills, team concepts, and leadership
Outcome:
Demonstrated improvement in individual and team performance year over year 2) Student-Athlete Academic Success Support academic progress in collaboration with academic and student success resources Reinforce expectations for classroom performance and accountability
Outcome:
Team GPA, retention, and graduation rates meet or exceed departmental benchmarks 3) Recruiting and Program Growth Recruit qualified student-athletes consistent with Centenary's academic profile and values Build a roster that supports competitiveness, balance, and inclusion
Outcome:
Full roster maintained annually with academically and culturally aligned student-athletes 4) Values-Based Team Culture Establish a team culture grounded in Curiosity, Respect, Service, and Excellence Promote belonging, sportsmanship, and personal responsibility
Outcome:
Positive team climate reflected in conduct, retention, and feedback 5) NCAA, Conference, and Institutional Compliance Ensure adherence to NCAA Division III, conference, and University regulations Complete all required compliance documentation and education
Outcome:
Zero major NCAA or conference violations 6) Program Administration and Operations Manage scheduling, travel planning, equipment, and budget responsibilities Maintain organized and professional program operations
Outcome:
Efficient and compliant program operations within budget guidelines 7) Staff Supervision and Development Hire, supervise, and mentor assistant coaches (as applicable) Foster a collaborative and learning-oriented staff culture
Outcome:
Assistant coaches meet performance expectations and demonstrate professional growth 8) Service, Engagement, and Leadership Development Encourage community engagement and service opportunities Support leadership development and life-skills education
Outcome:
Team participation in service or leadership initiatives annually 9) Institutional Collaboration Work collaboratively with athletics colleagues, admissions, faculty, and student life partners Support department and campus initiatives
Outcome:
Positive working relationships and effective cross-campus collaboration 10) Representation and Professional Conduct Serve as a positive ambassador for Centenary University Uphold professional standards in all competitive and public settings
Outcome:
Program recognized for sportsmanship, integrity, and professionalism Qualifications Bachelor's degree required Coaching experience in women's basketball (college or equivalent level) Strong understanding of NCAA Division III philosophy Demonstrated ability to recruit and develop student-athletes Commitment to student development, equity, and inclusion Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required Reporting Structure Reports to: Athletics Director Expected Performance Indicators Competitive and values-aligned women's basketball program Academic success and holistic development of student-athletes Compliance with NCAA, conference, and University policies Effective recruiting and roster management Positive team culture reflecting Centenary Values Professional representation of Centenary University
